Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

AUG. 6

12:41 a.m. — An 83-year-old man with hypertension and possible bleeding was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 3:14 a.m.

4:28 a.m. — A 63-year-old woman who fell and may have broken her ankle at a home in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

10:41 a.m. — Paged four times and delayed by road construction, only one Tampa ambulance medic and one Lincolnville first responder answered a dispatch for a 79-year-old woman who tripped in her yard and hurt her head and hip in the 400 block of Topeka St. in Lincolnville. With the lack of response, Marion ambulance was summoned to take the patient to St. Luke.

1:38 p.m. — An odor attributed to natural gas at a basement apartment in the 100 block of N. Wilson St. in Hillsboro was found by Hillsboro firefighters to be caused by a problem with a stove, which they corrected. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched but was not needed.

2:19 p.m. — The 79-year-old woman taken to St. Luke earlier was transferred by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:10 p.m.

AUG. 7

4:55 a.m. — An 86-year-old man passing blood clots through a urinary catheter at Salem Home in Hillsboro was transferred to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:49 p.m. — A 68-year-old woman with kidney failure was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:20 p.m.

THURSDAY

5:30 a.m. — Sparking electric wires and a utility pole on fire near US-56 and Eagle Rd. were monitored by Hillsboro firefighters pending arrival of Evergy workers. Dispatchers reported that Evergy contacts initially denied that the pole was Evergy’s but later admitted it was and sent a crew.

6:29 p.m. — A 58-year-old man who was run over by a tractor was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center.

FRIDAY

11:33 a.m. — Florence firefighters checked a Chevrolet Suburban that caught fire along US-50 west of the US-50/77 roundabout.

4:19 p.m. — A 76-year-old woman who suffered a stroke was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:32 p.m.

8:37 p.m. — A 2-year-old boy suffering a series of seizures at a home in the 100 block of Floral Dr. in Hillsboro was taken to Wesley Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:31 p.m.

SATURDAY

1:01 p.m. — An 83-year-old woman with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and having trouble breathing at a home on 275th Rd. in Pilsen was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:38 p.m. — A 41-year-old man who suffered a seizure at a home in the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro initially was not located by Hillsboro ambulance, which went to Casey’s General Store in the 300 block of N. Ash St. instead of to the address to which it had been dispatched. Once the ambulance went to the correct address, it took the man to HCH.

8:51 p.m. — The 83-year-old Pilsen woman earlier taken to St. Luke was transferred by Marion ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11 p.m.

SUNDAY

10:27 a.m. — Without explanation, McPherson County dispatchers asked to test with Marion County dispatchers a tone alert for Goessel firefighters. Although both the page and the announcement of the test were clearly recorded on newspaper monitoring equipment, Marion County dispatchers reported that the page tones were OK but that the announcement was garbled.

3:41 p.m. — An automated alarm at Bethesda Home in Goessel was determined by Goessel firefighters to be caused by a basement pipe that burst. Firefighters spent about an hour shutting off water, resetting the alarm, and cleaning leaked water.

7:30 p.m. — Hillsboro, Marion, and Peabody firefighters initially were dispatched to a report of a possible structure fire at a home in the 100 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro. However, the first Hillsboro firefighters to arrive found no fire and canceled the call.

MONDAY

6:05 a.m. — A 35-year-old man who fell in the 300 block of S. Grant St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

1:47 p.m. — A 57-year-old man with an obstructed bowel was transferred by Marion ambulance to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:28 p.m.

8:03 p.m. — A person kicked during a domestic disturbance at a rental home in the 700 block of W. 3rd St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance and instead planned to go to an emergency room via a private vehicle. A 30-year-old man involved in the disturbance reportedly fled on foot toward the city park. The sheriff’s office issued an alert attempting to locate him and reportedly found him at 10:35 p.m. and took him into custody.
