Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

AUG. 13

5:36 a.m. — Two transformers arcing in an alley between the 300 blocks of S. Cedar and S. Lincoln Sts. in Marion were monitored for 15 minutes by Marion firefighters until a city crew arrived. Initial dispatches did not specify north or south.

2:02 p.m. — A 74-year-old man with chest pains and vomiting at a farm near 130th and Goldenrod Rds. was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. A Goessel first responder provided initial evaluation of the patient. Responders had to avoid a loose cow en route to the farm. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:53 p.m.

7:53 p.m. — A 23-year-old woman who told dispatchers she felt as if she was having a stroke was taken by Tampa ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital from a residence in the 100 block of County Rd. in Tampa. Additional calls to Marion ambulance and a helicopter ambulance were canceled.

AUG. 14

11:55 a.m. — A 92-year-old woman with chest pains at a home in the 300 block of W. 11th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

3:48 p.m. — Marion firefighters were dispatched for a report of a gas meter struck by a vehicle in the 200 block of N. 1st St. in Marion, but the call was quickly canceled.

6:22 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman needing surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:54 p.m.

9:18 p.m. — Firefighters reported storm damage. Power failures and limbs of up to six inches in diameter were reported down between Lincolnville and Lost Springs. Limbs of 2 to 5 inches in diameter were reported down near Goessel.

10:19 p.m. — Peabody firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance briefly were dispatched for a traffic accident on US-50 at Nighthawk Rd. but quickly were told they wouldn’t be needed. A semi-trailer truck had hydroplaned into a ditch, and its uninjured driver was merely waiting for a tow truck to arrive.

11:12 p.m. — What was reported as a possible structure fire in the 200 block of Grandview St. in Florence was determined by Florence firefighters to have been a downed power line lying on a gas line and causing a water heater to glow. They shut off gas and electric service and remained at the house for nearly an hour pending arrival of Evergy and Atmos Energy crews. Marion and Peabody firefighters also were called but were told they would not be needed before most of them arrived. Marion ambulance stood by in case of injury.

THURSDAY

12:35 a.m. — A 41-year-old man who may have suffered a heart attack and was drifting in and out of consciousness after falling and hitting his head in the 300 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was taken to HCH by a caller who apparently did not want to wait for Hillsboro ambulance to arrive. Dispatchers offered to have the ambulance meet her en route, but she declined.

10:45 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman with general weakness at a home in the 800 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:40 a.m. — A 41-year-old man with chest pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:09 p.m.

4:01 p.m. — An 86-year-old man with a fever and general weakness was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from Salem Home in Hillsboro.

FRIDAY

9:41 a.m. — A 2½-year-old child having a seizure at a home in the 100 block of S. Floral Dr. in Hillsboro was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 12:17 p.m.

SATURDAY

12:01 a.m. — Marion ambulance was called to stand by but was not needed after an incoherent man was found outside Homestead Affordable Housing in Marion.

SUNDAY

12:05 a.m. — A 30-year-old woman needing post-surgical care was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley.

1:58 a.m. — A 35-year-old woman with abdominal pain was to be transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, but the transfer had to wait until 2:58 a.m., when the ambulance returned from Wichita.

3:25 a.m. — Marion ambulance was asked by sheriff’s deputies to check a person involved in a vehicle accident with a deer on 190th Rd. near Old Mill Rd. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital.

7:33 p.m. — A person trapped in an elevator at the MB Foundation building in Hillsboro was freed in a little less than an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.

9:35 p.m. — A 30-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:28 p.m.

MONDAY

12:42 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell in a parking lot at Hilltop Manor in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the woman.

3:26 p.m. — Fire in a vehicle in a driveway in the 400 block of Forest St. was extinguished before Marion firefighters arrived. Firefighters initially confused Forest and 4th St.

3:38 p.m. — An elderly man who fell out of his wheelchair on B St. near Wilson St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:21 p.m. — Lincolnville firefighters briefly were dispatched for a canceled fire alarm caused by smoke from a candle blown out at a farmhouse near 300th and Xavier Rds.
