Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

SEPT. 24

12:48 a.m. — A 51-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:08 a.m.

2:31 p.m. — Marion ambulance attendants helped lift an elderly man who fell at the front entrance to St. Luke.

6:53 p.m. — An automated medical alert sent on behalf of a diabetic 78-year-old woman in the 1000 block of Denver St. in Marion was canceled as Marion ambulance arrived from a public relations event at the county lake. An ambulance supervisor, a Marion police officer, and a sheriff’s deputy also responded to the false alarm.

SePT. 25

6:16 a.m. — A 53-year-old woman not breathing and receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation at a residence in the 300 block of E. Santa Fe St. in Marion was pronounced dead by Marion ambulance attendants. Hillsboro ambulance and an ambulance supervisor also responded.

10:54 a.m. — Peabody firefighters were sent to help with a traffic accident on US-50 at Harvest Hill Rd. in Harvey County.

8:32 p.m. — A 35-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:11 p.m.

THURSDAY

5:36 a.m. — Peabody firefighters checked an already extinguished vehicle fire on US-50 east of Mustang Rd.

12:02 p.m. — A 19-year-old woman who suffered an anxiety attack on the third floor of Jost Hall on the Tabor College campus was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped ambulance attendants negotiate stairs.

3:22 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by for two hours during a Marion High School cross-country meet.

4:39 p.m. — The county’s backup ambulance and Hillsboro ambulance stood by for nearly three hours at football games in Hillsboro and Goessel.

5:12 p.m. — Tampa ambulance stood by for nearly four hours during a football game in Peabody.

6:13 p.m. — As a precaution, Marion ambulance and Peabody firefighters were sent to what was billed as a non-injury rollover accident east of 130th and Nighthawk Rds. However, an off-duty ambulance attendant was first on the scene and canceled the call.

9:05 p.m. — Marion firefighters stood by for nearly an hour during a school rally at Warrior Stadium.

FRIDAY

6:24 p.m. — Tampa ambulance stood by for two hours at a Centre High School football game.

6:49 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by for 2½ hours at a Hillsboro High School football game.

6:55 p.m. — A 41-year-old man complaining of leg pain at Westview Manor in Peabody was transferred by Marion ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion and began standing by for the final 15 minutes of a Warrior football game at 8:44 p.m.

9:43 p.m. — A lethargic 9-month-old baby who threw up blood at a home in the 200 block of W. 8th St. in Florence was examined but not taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

SATURDAY

12:01 a.m. — A 65-year-old man with cardiac problems was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned at 3:01 a.m.

9:02 a.m. — A series of telephone calls that could not be monitored led to Tampa ambulance being dispatched without explanation to stand by for half an hour at 370th and Limestone Rds. near Ramona. The ambulance did not examine or transport a patient.

10:17 a.m. — At a physician’s request, a 68-year-old man who previously fell and had trouble breathing at a Parkside Homes duplex was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH.

10:45 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance en route to HCH, first Marion ambulance, then Tampa ambulance, then Marion ambulance was dispatched for a 61-year-old man with cancer drifting in and out of consciousness after a fall at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro. After completing its call, Hillsboro ambulance responded as well and took the patient to HCH. Marion ambulance returned to Marion just in time to join the Old Settlers Day parade as the final parade unit.

1:30 p.m. — An uninjured 73-year-old woman who fell outside a house in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:01 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by for an hour at an unscheduled Tabor College football event.

5:07 p.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College townhouses was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm.

SUNDAY

4:48 a.m. — An uninjured 74-year-old man who fell at a home in the 100 block of S. Date St. was helped up by Hillsboro firefighters and ambulance attendants, who were told not to use lights and sirens on the call. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:11 a.m. — A 90-year-old man experiencing weakness at a farmhouse near 190th and Kanza Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:41 a.m. — An ambulance attendant requested Tampa and Marion ambulances for an 80-year-old man, reportedly in life-threatening condition, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tampa. An ambulance supervisor switched the call from Marion ambulance to Hillsboro ambulance even though there also was a pending call in Hillsboro ambulance’s response area. Tampa ambulance attendants attempted to cancel the call to Hillsboro ambulance, but it already had arrived. In the end, Tampa ambulance took the man to Salina Regional Health Center. The ambulance returned to Tampa at 12:39 p.m.

9:47 a.m. — Marion ambulance was sent on the pending call to a farmhouse near 100th and Alamo Rds., 29 miles away, for a sick and weak 67-year-old woman with cancer. Goessel first responders also were called. The ambulance took her to NMC Health and returned to Marion at 12:01 p.m.

Noon — A 61-year-old man with altered mental status was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:29 p.m.

12:30 p.m. — The 90-year-old man who four hours earlier declined to be taken to a hospital from near 190th and Kanza Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:03 p.m. — A 74-year-old man, possibly suffering a reaction to medication received Friday, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Francis from a farmhouse near US-56 and Nighthawk Rd. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:58 p.m.

9:19 p.m. — A 51-year-old woman, seven months’ pregnant, whose water broke at a house in the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded. Tampa ambulance was paged to stand by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 11:42 p.m.

10:24 p.m. — With Marion and Hillsboro ambulances out of the county, Tampa ambulance was sent from the Hillsboro ambulance station to a home on Random Rd. at Marion County Lake where an uninjured 83-year-old man needed help up after a fall. A Marion firefighter and the ambulance supervisor volunteered to respond instead. The supervisor canceled the call to Tampa ambulance, and the firefighter asked another firefighter to help.

MONDAY

12:33 a.m. — An 80-year-old man who fell at a farmhouse near 100th and Alamo Rds. was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

3:36 a.m. — An 88-year-old man who fell at a home in the 200 block of S. Date St. in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

10:11 a.m. — A 69-year-old woman feeling sick at Marion Reservoir’s Hillsboro Cove was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.

12:50 p.m. — A 40-year-old man who fell at the Peabody police station declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:37 p.m. — A 54-year-old man who fell out of a wheelchair at Wilson and D Sts. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:32 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by for two hours at a football game in Goessel.
