Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 22

1:44 p.m. — Fire in a soybean field and at the top of a power pole struck by lightning near 280th and Indigo Rds. was extinguished within an hour by Durham and Tampa firefighters.

9:56 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman with a broken ankle was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 12:14 a.m.

OCT. 23

1:12 a.m. — Fire caused by a blown transformer on a utility pole behind Marion Die and Fixture’s building in Batt Industrial Park in Marion was extinguished within 30 minutes by Marion firefighters.

8:18 a.m. — An automated alert about a wreck at 20th and Old Mill Rds. proved to be a false alarm caused by someone dropping a cell phone. Peabody firefighters and rescue squad and Hillsboro ambulance searched unsuccessfully for the reported wreck before it was determined that it was a false alarm.

8:27 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance already dispatched to the false alarm, Marion ambulance and Hillsboro first responders were sent to a residence in the 100 block of S. Wilson St. in Hillsboro to help an uninjured 69-year-old man get up. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

4:15 p.m. — A 79-year-old man responding abnormally after a fall at a farm near 360th and Upland Rds. was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Tampa ambulance.

6:49 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion for what later was determined to be a false alarm sent by a medical alert company.

7:16 p.m. — A 38-year-old woman with stomach pains at Oakwood Manor in Hillsboro was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:50 p.m.

9:49 p.m. — A 79-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

THURSDAY

12:34 a.m. — As soon as Marion ambulance crossed back into the county, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to HCH to transfer a 21-year-old woman complaining of pressure on her chest. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:03 a.m.

5:29 a.m. — An 89-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 300 block of Tanglewood St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

12:42 p.m. — Durham firefighters returned to 280th and Indigo Rds. to extinguish a rekindled fire from two days earlier.

2:17 p.m. — Burns firefighters helped direct traffic around a wreck at NW 150th St. and US-77 in Butler County.

2:51 p.m. — A stubble field and hedge row fire near 90th and Alamo Rds. was extinguished after more than two hours by firefighters from Goessel, Hillsboro, Lincolnville, Marion, Moundridge, Ramona, and Peabody. Hillsboro ambulance and the county emergency manager also were dispatched. Goessel firefighters continued to check for rekindling hourly afterward.

3:13 p.m. — An unresponsive 73-year-old man who suffered a seizure at Marion County Food Bank in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Tampa ambulance was sent to the Hillsboro ambulance station until 4:35 p.m. in case of additional calls.

4:58 p.m. — Many of them returning from the fire near 90th and Alamo Rds., Durham, Hillsboro, and Marion firefighters were sent along with Hillsboro ambulance to a smaller fire in a soybean field at 190th and Jade Rd. The fire was extinguished within half an hour.

5:40 p.m. — Many of them responding from the fire at 190th and Jade Rd., Florence, Goessel, Herington, Hillsboro, Lincolnville, Marion, Ramona, and Tampa firefighters were sent to spend more than two hours battling a grass fire that jumped across K-150 a little more than two miles into Chase County.

6:17 p.m. — A 73-year-old man with a fever was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:52 p.m.

7:05 p.m. — An unresponsive 78-year-old man receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation at Marion Reservoir’s Hillsboro Cove was pronounced dead by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. With Marion and Hillsboro ambulances tied up, Tampa ambulance was sent to Hillsboro to stand by in case of additional calls.

7:53 p.m. — A person having trouble standing at a residence in the 1000 block of Tanglewood St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance, responding from Hillsboro. Marion firefighters helped lift the patient.

11:53 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman with a bloody nose at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

8:12 a.m. — An 85-year-old man who fell at a residence in the 100 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion was taken by Marion ambulance to Wesley on an emergency basis. The county ambulance director assisted. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:05 a.m.

11:42 a.m. — Police had Marion ambulance dispatched to the principal’s office at Marion Middle School for a 14-year-old boy who may have overdosed on amphetamines. The ambulance did not take the boy to a hospital.

1:32 p.m. — Ramona firefighters were sent to help Herington and Hope firefighters spend half an hour battling a blaze near 200th Ave. and Quail Rd.

6:22 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched for an automated medical alert on behalf of a 34-year-old woman in the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. but reported that there was no patient.

6:52 p.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulances and Goessel first responders stood by until around 9 p.m. at separate football games in their respective towns.

7:05 p.m. — Called away from its football game, Hillsboro ambulance was sent along with Hillsboro first responders to help lift an uninjured 76-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 200 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro and could not get up. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:46 p.m. — An apparently unauthorized trash fire in the 200 block of S. Olive St. in Peabody was extinguished within 30 minutes by Peabody firefighters, who were called by a sheriff’s deputy.

SATURDAY

10 a.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 12:40 p.m. for a cross-country meet at Warrior Stadium in Marion. Ambulance attendants reported checking one possible patient during the standby but did not take anyone to a hospital.

1:06 p.m. — An 83-year-old man who fell and hurt his hip at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:39 p.m. — A confused 94-year-old woman with high blood pressure at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

7:21 p.m. — A patient who walked into the Hillsboro ambulance station was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

SUNDAY

1:23 p.m. — An automated medical alarm on behalf of an 82-year-old woman in the 700 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was discovered to be a false alarm before Hillsboro ambulance arrived.

MONDAY

6:43 a.m. — A physician’s requested that a 69-year-old man be transferred from Bethesda Home to NMC Health, but when Hillsboro ambulance arrived, the patient declined to be transferred. Goessel first responders also were paged but did not answer.

12:55 p.m. — A fire alarm at a house in the 500 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.

1:15 p.m. — A dispatcher notified Marion ambulance that an elderly woman’s daughter reported that her mother might have fallen at her home. No address was provided, and a few minutes later, the dispatcher canceled the call.

7:07 p.m. — Marion firefighters spent less than an hour extinguishing a tree limb bonfire, started despite a red flag warning, at a residence near 140th Rd. and B St. in Aulne. The location initially was announced as being in Pilsen. Firefighters asked for sheriff’s deputies to respond as well.
