Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
NOV. 19
2:45 a.m. — An 84-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
11:34 a.m. — A 63-year-old woman short of breath at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded but was told he would not be needed before he arrived.
1:10 p.m. — A 59-year-old man who fell at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:02 p.m.
3:19 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman feeling weak at a residence in the 800 block of W. Grand Ave. after having been released from a hospital was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
4:31 p.m. — Peabody firefighters helped lift a person who fell at a home in the 300 block of W. 7th St. in Peabody.
8:10 p.m. — At a deputy’s request, Marion ambulance and Lincolnville first responders were sent to check two people involved in a car-deer accident on US-56/77 a quarter of a mile south of Lincolnville. An ambulance supervisor and Tampa ambulance also responded but were told to stand down after a second deputy reported that only one person was injured. Both people involved declined to be taken to a hospital.
9:44 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman, dizzy with low blood pressure at a home in the 200 block of N. Adams St. in Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
11:00 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman who called a poison center after falling soon after taking an antihistamine at a home in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
NOV. 20
5:17 p.m. — An agitated and uncooperative 89-year-old man not responding normally at a home in the 500 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the patient.
8:29 p.m. — What appeared to be the same patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:43 p.m.
THURSDAY
3:04 a.m. — Fire in a trash container behind storage units in the 300 block of W. 2nd St. in Hillsboro was extinguished within 10 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.
7:10 a.m. — Goessel firefighters helped lift an 81-year-old man who fell near 29th Ave. and Dakota Rd. in McPherson County.
12:58 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell at a house near 190th and Jade Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
5:30 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman having trouble breathing after spraying a possible poison into her eyes in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
7:35 p.m. — A weak 79-year-old woman vomiting blood at a home in the 300 block of N. Poplar St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:31 p.m.
8:37 p.m. — A 74-year-old man with chest pains was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:19 p.m.
10:52 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:30 a.m.
FRIDAY
3:19 a.m. — A man, somewhat unresponsive after suffering a series of seizures in the 200 block of N. Pipe St. in Peabody, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:09 a.m. Marion ambulance also was dispatched.
5:18 a.m. — A 72-year-old man suffering tremors, possibly from COVID-19, while riding in a semi-trailer truck on US-50 near Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
8:12 a.m. — A 72-year-old man found unconscious and bleeding from the mouth on the floor at a home in the 200 block of S. Church Ave. in Burns was taken to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado, by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders provided initial evaluation of the patient. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:20 a.m.
9:56 p.m. — A 24-year-old man with kidney stones was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:08 a.m.
SATURDAY
12:57 a.m. — As soon as Marion ambulance returned to the county, a 41-year-old man with low potassium levels was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:19 a.m.
4:41 a.m. — In a secretive dispatch, details of which were revealed by telephone instead of being broadcast, Marion ambulance was ordered to stand by at Town and Country Café in Florence for more than two hours — until 7:06 a.m. With other transmissions encrypted to prevent the public from monitoring them, no additional information was immediately available.
1:02 p.m. — Hillsboro and Tampa ambulances were alerted to an unconscious 67-year-old man, but before they departed, dispatchers said the man came around and was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.
1:18 p.m. — A woman with abnormally low blood pressure at a home in the 200 block of S. Adams St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. However, Hillsboro firefighters were called to help carry the woman down stairs on a stretcher.
2:36 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 1100 block of Denver St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
10 p.m. — A 79-year-old man with meningitis was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:02 a.m.
