Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
DEC. 17
12:50 a.m. — An uninjured 69-year-old woman who fell out of a recliner at an apartment in the 400 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants and first responders. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
1:57 a.m. — Marion firefighters removed a smoking battery from a vehicle at Marion’s police station.
11:57 a.m. — A 71-year-old woman who fell in a bathtub the day before at a home near 180th and Timber Rd. was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.
12:57 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
2:22 p.m. — At a physician’s request, a possibly septic 80-year-old man at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
5:11 p.m. — A 17-year-old girl, unconscious after a head injury at a basketball game at Centre High School, was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. A nurse at the game and a Lincolnville first responder provided initial care. Tampa ambulance also was called, but the call was canceled because Marion ambulance could arrive first.
8:23 p.m. — A 45-year-old woman experiencing numbness and paralysis at a house in the 500 block of Lawrence Ave. in Durham was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. A Durham first responder also was called.
DEC. 18
9:42 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman with chest pains at an apartment in the 700 block of S. Ash St. was taken to a hospital by a relative. Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched but went to the wrong apartment and broke down. Marion ambulance then was dispatched, but the call was canceled before the ambulance arrived.
5:13 p.m. — A 77-year-old man having trouble breathing in the 200 block of W. 7th St. in Florence was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded from Hillsboro but was told he wouldn’t be needed before he arrived. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:29 p.m.
11:23 p.m. — A 79-year-old man with a swollen knee at a home in the 100 block of W. Commerce St. in Goessel was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders provided initial care.
THURSDAY
6:31 a.m. — A 63-year-old woman trapped in a car after it veered off K-15/Bison Rd. and hit a guard rail just south of US-56 was extricated by Hillsboro firefighters and taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley in critical condition. Helicopter ambulance services declined to respond because of weather. Lehigh firefighters helped with traffic control. An ambulance supervisor also responded. Marion ambulance initially was dispatched but was turned back before it arrived. Dispatchers initially did not report whether it was K-15/Bison Rd. or K-15/Holly Rd. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:56 a.m.
8:32 a.m. — An 86-year-old woman who fell at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
12:01 p.m. — What presumably was the same patient, now diagnosed with a hip fracture, was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:44 p.m.
FRIDAY
10:57 a.m. — A 66-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:27 p.m.
3:24 p.m. — An 18-year-old boy who hurt his neck in a wrestling match at Marion’s Sports and Aquatics Center was treated by Marion ambulance attendants and loaded into an ambulance in serious condition but declined to be taken to a hospital. A Burns firefighter attending the wrestling meets called for the ambulance.
SATURDAY
12:59 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman who made have suffered a stroke in the 900 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:51 p.m.
8:25 p.m. — A woman who fell on a stair at a farmhouse near 290th and Limestone Rd. was taken to NMC Health by Tampa ambulance. An off-duty ambulance attendant helped with the call. The ambulance returned to Tampa at 11:26 p.m.
SUNDAY
4:05 a.m. — A 24-year-old man dehydrated and complaining of heart attack symptoms after consuming multiple energy drinks the night before in the 300 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:45 a.m. — An uninjured 81-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
12:03 p.m. — A 60-year-old man with a history of seizures, slumped over at a home in the 100 block of S. Olive St. in Peabody, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Francis. Peabody firefighters helped lift the patient. Ambulance attendants called for police to respond as well but were told no officers were available. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:35 p.m.
3:26 p.m. — A 91-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.
