JAN. 14
4:44 p.m. — An 81-year-old man with a hemorrhage was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:37 p.m.
7:24 p.m. — A 75-year-old man who became dizzy and fell off a chair at a home in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. in Hillsboro after taking kidney stone medication prescribed earlier in the day was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters help lift the patient.
JAN. 15
10:25 a.m. — A 74-year-old man with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:03 p.m.
11:05 a.m. — Tampa ambulance was told to stand by for two hours in Hillsboro until Hillsboro ambulance returned.
12:43 p.m. — An 89-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:57 p.m.
8:34 p.m. — A 66-year-old man who fell face-first on a floor at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:30 p.m.
THURSDAY
1:18 p.m. — A fire alarm at a Tabor College dormitory was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by bread burning in a toaster.
5:07 p.m. — A second-hand report of a woman possibly suffering a stroke at Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants to be a false alarm.
7:28 p.m. — A 58-year-old man with chest pain and trouble breathing and becoming pale and clammy at a home in the 200 block of W. Main St. in Burns declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance despite being evaluated by ambulance attendants and three Burns first responders as in potentially serious condition.
9:34 p.m. — A person who fell at the living room of a home in the 300 block of Lombard St. in Lincolnville declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Two Lincolnville first responders went door to door to attempt to clear up confusion over the address, which an uncooperative caller did not provide and was obtained only by tracing the 911 call.
FRIDAY
2:51 a.m. — A diabetic 73-year-old woman with what was reported to be altered mental status at Salem Home was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:09 p.m. — What presumably was the same patient, now diagnosed as suffering from sepsis, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:52 a.m.
11:08 a.m. — An uninjured 60- or 70-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
12:44 p.m. — An automated alert about a fall detected at Alexanderwohl Church was determined by a Goessel first responder to be a false alarm. Hillsboro ambulance also responded.
4:02 p.m. — An 85-year-old man who fell off a curb at Bomgaars and cut his head was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:06 p.m. — A 49-year-old woman needing surgery was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:50 a.m.
SATURDAY
2:23 a.m. — A man with stroke-like symptoms at a home in the 600 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance, which was assigned instead of Hillsboro ambulance by an ambulance supervisor, who also responded.
12:06 p.m. — At a physician’s request, a patient who fell at Peabody Health and Rehab was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:59 p.m.
SUNDAY
12:36 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head, shoulder, and hip at Salem Home was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:01 a.m.
11:51 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters spent about half an hour extinguishing a fire in the city’s compost pile.
1:56 p.m. — A possible stroke victim, outside for several hours in the 300 block of Lombard St. in Lincolnville, was taken to St. Luke’s helipad by Marion ambulance and transferred to a LifeSave helicopter destined for Wesley. Lincolnville first responders provided initial evaluation of the patient, and Lincolnville firefighters helped lift him. An ambulance supervisor also responded to the call.
MONDAY
4:15 a.m. — A 97-year-old man who passed out after feeling as if he was going to fall at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
10:37 a.m. — An 88-year-old man having trouble breathing at a home in the 500 block of Columbus St. in Tampa was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. Dispatchers originally assigned the call to Marion ambulance, citing an address on Commercial St. in Marion.
11:48 a.m. — A man in his 60s suffering foot pain, originally described as trouble breathing, in a camper parked behind a home in the 600 block of Cemetery Ln. in Burns was taken to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado, by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders provided initial care.
1:07 p.m. — Lincolnville firefighters and first responders and Tampa ambulance initially were dispatched to what turned out to be a fatal head-on crash on US-77 near 270th Rd.
Hillsboro ambulance and Marion rescue squad also were dispatched. Herington firefighters volunteered to respond as well, as did a Dickinson County ambulance.
A helicopter ambulance also was ordered, but the extra ambulances were told to stand down.
Tampa ambulance later was diverted to a separate two-car wreck a mile to the east on Xavier Rd. and took one person involved to St. Luke.
Firefighters remained diverting traffic until after 3 p.m. on the south side of the wreck and after 5 p.m. on the north side, when Department of Transportation workers took over.
4:13 p.m. — Peabody firefighters and Marion and Hillsboro ambulances were sent to a wreck at US-50 and Nighthawk Rd., but the only person reportedly injured told firefighters she would drive herself to a hospital. An ambulance supervisor continued to the accident nonetheless. Three others involved declined to be taken to a hospital.
6:05 p.m. — A 93-year-old woman with pneumonia was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to HCH.
7:29 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman who fell at Salem Home was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:18 p.m.
