Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JAN. 21
12:31 a.m. — A 64-year-old man with pneumonia and an obstructed bowel was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 3:09 p.m.
12:38 a.m. — Marion firefighters helped lift a person who apparently fell at a home in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion.
4:15 p.m. — A 57-year-old woman who fainted and fell near the community center at Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
7:57 p.m. — What appeared to be the same patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to NMC.

THURSDAY
1:47 a.m. — An 81-year-old man who slipped on ice, fell, and hurt his hip 10 hours earlier near 160th and Falcon Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
8:50 a.m. — A 50-year-old woman confused and not feeling well at a home in the 200 block of N. Vernon St. in Lehigh after an unspecified incident four days earlier was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:37 a.m. — An 81-year-old man unable to stand because of tremors at a home on Tanglewood St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
12:19 p.m. — Goessel first responders and Hillsboro ambulance were sent back to the patient from 1:47 a.m. This time, the ambulance took him to HCH.
4:44 p.m. — What appeared to be the same patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to NMC. Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched, but the call was switched to Marion ambulance because of what were described as issues with the Hillsboro ambulance. It was swapped with a backup ambulance. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 6:50 p.m.
FRIDAY
7:06 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman nauseated and light-headed at Salem Home apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by the backup ambulance based in Hillsboro.
12:55 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman with flu-like symptoms at a home in the 700 block of Abilene Ave. was taken to HCH by the Hillsboro backup ambulance. A Durham first responder evaluated the patient before the ambulance arrived.
3:15 p.m. — A 74-year-old man who fell at a home near US-56 and Nighthawk Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by the Hillsboro backup ambulance.
8:05 p.m. — An 87-year-old woman with trauma was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:45 p.m.
10:46 p.m. — A 93-year-old woman receiving dialysis was transferred by the Hillsboro backup ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:20 a.m.
11:18 p.m. — Marion ambulance, Florence firefighters, and an ambulance supervisor were sent to US-50 near Marion St. in Florence to investigate an automated collision report, which after nearly half an hour of searching turned out to be a false alarm. Still, with the county’s two full-time ambulances on calls, Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by at the Hillsboro ambulance station in case of additional calls.
SATURDAY
9:29 p.m. — The Hillsboro backup ambulance returned to a farmhouse near 160th and Falcon Rd. where the 81-year-old man who earlier was taken to a hospital with a hip injury was suffering chest pains. This time, he was taken on an emergency basis to Wesley. More than halfway to Wichita, ambulance attendants complained to dispatchers about a vehicle tailgating them at 90 mph with its high-beam headlights on.
9:40 p.m. — A 55-year-old man running a high temperature at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. With both full-time ambulances on calls, Tampa ambulance again was ordered to stand by until 10:52 p.m., this time at US-56 and Nighthawk Rds., in case of additional calls.
11:43 p.m. — Upon returning to the county, Hillsboro ambulance was sent directly to HCH to transfer an 84-year-old woman with low blood sodium to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:44 a.m.
SUNDAY
8:49 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched to Indigo Rd. half a mile north of Hillsboro for a man passed out in a green pickup. However, law enforcement officers canceled the call and apparently arrested the man on suspicion of drunken driving.
7:21 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance and an ambulance supervisor were dispatched to a farm near 80th and Newell Rds. for a report of a 13-year-old girl nauseated after taking 10 to 15 pills of anti-anxiety and attention-deficit medication. A second caller informed dispatchers she would be taking the girl to a hospital by private vehicle. No one appeared to be at the residence by the time ambulance attendants and law enforcement officers arrived.
MONDAY
7:06 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman with a kidney stone was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Salina Regional Health Center.
7:59 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance left the county to be serviced in McPherson. With Marion ambulance on a call to Salina, Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls.
8:48 a.m. — Tampa ambulance, Marion firefighters and rescue squad, and Hillsboro rescue squad were dispatched to extricate and take to St. Luke a 66-year-old man trapped after he passed out and his vehicle hit a tree near Kellison and Cedar Sts. in Marion. A backup ambulance from Hillsboro also responded. Hillsboro rescue squad was told to stand down before it arrived.
10:13 a.m. — Still heading back to its quarters, Marion ambulance was diverted to a possible stroke at a home in the 1000 block of Marion St. in Florence. The ambulance took a patient to St. Luke from that address.
11:12 a.m. — Marion ambulance attendants helped St. Luke personnel deal with a patient who was not breathing.
11:50 a.m. — An Eagle Med helicopter ambulance transferred a St. Luke patient to Wesley.
12:53 p.m. — A kitchen fire alarm at Bethesda Home in Goessel was determined to be a false alarm before firefighters arrived.
1:42 p.m. — The Hillsboro backup ambulance went out of service to go to McPherson and pick up the regular Hillsboro ambulance, which had undergone repairs there. Both ambulances returned to Hillsboro at 2:51 p.m.
