Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

APRIL 22

1:52 a.m. — An 82-year-old man with kidney failure was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Dole Veterans Affairs Hospital, Wichita.

1:37 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched to a lawn mower fire near US-50 and Mustang Rd., but the fire was out before they arrived.

APRIL 23

5:20 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman with an arterial bleed was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

THURSDAY

8:52 a.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulances and Marion firefighters were dispatched when a smartphone fell off a vehicle and generated a false alarm of an injury accident in a driveway on Mustang Rd. north of 170th Rd.

12:53 p.m. — A 69-year-old man with atrial fibrillation was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

4:18 p.m. — An automated fire alarm from a house in the 300 block of W. 8th St. in Florence was determined by Florence firefighters to be a false alarm.

5:29 p.m. — An automated fire alarm at 2S Outdoor Power in Hillsboro was determined to be a false alarm before Hillsboro firefighters arrived.

11:05 p.m. — An 82-year-old man who fell was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley.

FRIDAY

6:47 a.m. — Hillsboro, Marion, and Tampa ambulances, an ambulance supervisor, and Durham and Tampa firefighters were dispatched after two vehicles collided on K-15 near 330th Rd. Drivers complained of knee and abdominal pain, but both declined to be taken to a hospital. No accident report has yet been released by the sheriff’s department. Additional information was not available because sheriff’s transmissions are encrypted even though only criminal history from a specific national database is required to be encrypted.

7:24 p.m. — A 3-year-old girl whose hand became caught in an industrial fan at a farm on Union Rd. north of US-56 was freed before Florence firefighters and Marion ambulance arrived. The ambulance did not take her to a hospital.

SATURDAY

3:57 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman having respiratory problems at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. Medics had to ask dispatchers to call the nursing home to arrange entry. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

9:57 a.m. — An 80-year-old man feeling faint at a farm near 90th and Falcon Rds. was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

11:23 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance still in Newton, Marion ambulance was dispatched for a 68-year-old woman who fell and cut her head at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro. She was taken to HCH.

SUNDAY

7:14 p.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.

9:50 p.m. — A 55-year-old man with chest trauma was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

11:17 p.m. — A second fire alarm at Westview Manor again was determined by Peabody ambulance to be a false alarm. A technical was summoned to repair the nursing home’s faulty alarm control panel.

MONDAY

2:44 a.m. — A third fire alarm at Westview Manor was canceled six minutes later by the nursing home’s alarm company.

4:42 a.m. — A fourth fire alarm was reported at Westview Manor. After repeated pages, a lone Peabody firefighter responded and reported more than an hour later that the nursing home still was waiting for a technician to arrive to repair the alarm system.

10:07 a.m. — A medical alarm reportedly activated by a woman in the 700 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro police to be a false alarm before Hillsboro ambulance arrived.

1:29 p.m. — A 61-year-old man suspected of having a heart attack at a farm near 100th and Alamo Rds. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. A Goessel first responder arrived 12 minutes before the ambulance.

8:48 p.m. — Four people involved in a two-vehicle wreck at US-56 and K-15/Holly Rd. were examined by medics aboard Hillsboro ambulance. A 73-year-old woman with a toe injury was taken to HCH. Others declined to be taken to a hospital. A call to Marion ambulance was canceled before it arrived. Hillsboro firefighters provided traffic control for nearly an hour.
