Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 29

1:26 a.m. — An 86-year-old woman with chest pain and atrial fibrillation at a home in the 100 block of N. 4th St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor initially responded as well but was told he would not be needed.

8:20 a.m. — A 90-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke at a farmhouse on 47th Terr. west of Bee Rd. was taken by Marion ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Burns first responders were paged but did not answer.

11:18 a.m. — A 53-year-old woman with back pain and cramps in one of her arms at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:28 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman with kidney failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

4:51 p.m. — A fire alarm at Container Services in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm.

6:09 p.m. — Returning from Wesley, Marion ambulance reported directly to St. Luke to transfer another patient — a 53-year-old woman with an unspecified medical condition — to Wesley. The ambulance finally was back at its station at 8:47 p.m.

JULY 30

1:55 a.m. — An 83-year-old woman with possible nerve damage at Peabody Health and Rehab was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.

3:12 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance not yet back from Newton, Marion ambulance was assigned to take to Hillsboro Community Hospital an 89-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head and back at a residence in the 100 block of S. Wilson St. in Hillsboro.

2:24 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were sent to yet another false alarm at Westview Manor, where more than seven false alarms were reported last week.

5:30 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle fully engulfed in flames at NE 96th Rd. and NE Lake Rd. in Harvey County. Firefighters arriving also reported a soybean field on fire along US-50 and an error in the address provided via a cell phone alert to them. The fires were extinguished within 35 minutes.

6:32 p.m. — Peabody firefighters reported that an Evergy utility pole snapped, dragging down power lines at 9th and Vine Sts. in Peabody during high winds and heavy rain.

10:29 p.m. — An 82-year-old man who fell at a farmhouse just south of US-56 and K-256 was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

THURSDAY

1:42 p.m. — Two people injured in a car-motorcycle accident on K-15 north of 70th Rd. were taken to Wesley by Hillsboro and Hesston ambulances. Marion ambulance was called but was not fully staffed at the time. Goessel firefighters provided initial care, cleared the roadway, and directed traffic for more than an hour. They also reported that a baby was picked up by another vehicle that arrived at the scene. The baby was not in the car involved in the wreck. A helicopter ambulance initially was dispatched but was not needed. Tampa ambulance initially was told to stand by in Hillsboro, then to report to the accident, and finally to stand by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls. It remained there until 4:45 p.m. when Hillsboro ambulance returned and restocked.

2:41 p.m. — A report of odor and haze thought to be from an electrical fire at a residence in the 100 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be caused by a transformer in an alley behind the house.

FRIDAY

1:29 a.m. — A woman in her 80s who fell out of bed at a Parkside Homes duplex in Hillsboro was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

6:06 a.m. — An emotionally disturbed 26-year-old woman who swallowed “a bunch of pills” for sleeping and nightmares at an apartment in the 600 block of E. Marion St. in Goessel was examined by Goessel first responders until Hillsboro ambulance arrived at 6:25 a.m. and took her to HCH.

10:23 a.m. — An 84-year-old man who fainted and fell in a cemetery behind Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church on Kanza Rd. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:34 a.m. — A 24-year-old woman with imbalanced electrolytes was transferred from St. Luke to Wesley by a backup ambulance based in Marion.

SATURDAY

8:43 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance headed to Goessel for the Threshing Days parade, returning to Hillsboro at 10:28 a.m.

11:18 a.m. — A fire alarm at the fine arts building on the Tabor College campus was attributed by Hillsboro firefighters to use of a smoke machine by a film crew in the building.

4:51 p.m. — A 75-year-old man with back pain at an unspecified apartment within Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the patient.

10:58 p.m. — Despite being evaluated as being in potentially serious condition, a 74-year-old woman having chest pains and trouble breathing after being involved in a wreck on US-56 west of Limestone Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

7:49 a.m. — A 66-year-old man, weak, vomiting, and with a high fever in the 200 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by a backup ambulance based in Marion. The call initially was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance, which switched the call to Marion ambulance.

1:41 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman who fell and hit her nose on a small concrete block inside a home in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift the woman.

9:17 p.m. — An anxious southbound driver on US-56/77, fearful of not reaching St. Luke in time with a 70-year-old woman having extreme abdominal pain, was told to stop at MFA Oil in Lincolnville and rendezvous with a Lincolnville first responder and a backup ambulance based in Marion to complete the trip. The ambulance reached St. Luke at 9:59 p.m.

MONDAY

1:33 a.m. — Diagnosed as suffering from sepsis, the 70-year-old woman brought in from US-56/77 was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Salina Regional Health Center.

8:07 a.m. — A 48-year-old woman with a history of aneurism and feeling “tingly” in the 700 block of W. Grand Ave. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance, summoned by police.

8:42 a.m. — A backup ambulance based in Marion was dispatched to transfer a 67-year-old woman with sepsis from St. Luke to Wesley.

8:50 a.m. — Having not yet started its transfer, the backup ambulance was diverted to help a 63-year-old woman who fell at Homestead Affordable Housing, Marion. After attendants helped her up, she declined to be taken to a hospital, and the ambulance proceeded with its delayed transfer at 9:13 a.m.

7:06 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to an apartment in the 900 block of E. B St. for a 55-year-old man seeking pain medication for a sprained ankle and help changing clothes after a fall the day before. An ambulance supervisor also responded, and Hillsboro firefighters were called to help lift the man, who was taken to HCH.
