Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

SEPT. 2

12:26 a.m. — An 82-year-old man who suffered an apparent heart attack was transferred from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The call originally went to Marion ambulance, but Hillsboro ambulance opted to transfer the patient instead.

5:13 p.m. — Medics informed dispatchers that Marion ambulance would not be available until 6:54 p.m.

SEPT. 3

1:10 p.m. — A 28-year-old woman who reportedly ingested fertilizer accidentally at a rental home in the 900 block of Highland St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

6:12 p.m. — Pea-size hail was reported near Centre High School.

11:50 p.m. — A smoke alarm in a southwest stairway at Alexanderwohl Church was determined by Goessel firefighters to have been a false alarm caused by a faulty sensor.

THURSDAY

2:49 p.m. — An Eagle Med helicopter transferred an unspecified patient from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

4:16 p.m. — A person injured in a wreck near 130th and Remington Rds. was taken to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance was delayed by a train at 140th and Pawnee Rds. With Marion ambulance apparently unavailable, Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls. At 6:50 p.m., it was redirected to stand by at a football game that first was reported to be in Goessel and later was reported to be in Peabody. Before the ambulance arrived, however, medics announced that Marion ambulance was available again. The call to stand by at the football game was canceled, and Tampa ambulance returned to Tampa.

FRIDAY

3:24 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell at Indian Guide Apartments in Peabody, hurt her chest, and could not get up declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:27 a.m. — Marion ambulance and a lone medic staffing Hillsboro ambulance were dispatched for a 51-year-old man who fell and cut his leg at Barkman Honey in Hillsboro. A Hillsboro firefighter who is also an emergency medical technician volunteered to join the Hillsboro medic, so Marion ambulance was not needed. The man was taken to HCH.

4:22 p.m. — A reportedly uninjured 78-year-old woman who slid off a bed at a farmhouse near 240th and Indigo Rds. was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

5:33 p.m. — Tampa ambulance left to stand by until 9:53 p.m. at a football game in Goessel.

6:08 p.m. — Marion firefighters briefly were dispatched for a report of a fire in a concession stand at Warrior Stadium in Marion, but the call was canceled before firefighters arrived.

6:43 p.m. — A 50-year-old man in a sport-utility vehicle stopped at the state highway shops in Marion and reportedly drifting in an out of consciousness after taking unfamiliar medication declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

7:05 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 9:07 p.m. during a football game in Marion.

SATURDAY

10:19 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman who fell at a farmhouse near K-15 and 240th Rd. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:25 p.m. — A 77-year-old man who previously suffered a stroke declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance from a house in the 200 block of W. 7th St. in Florence.

5:55 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 8:56 p.m. at a football game at Tabor College.

7:48 p.m. — A 25-year-old man critically injured when his dirt bike hit a deer on Bluestem Rd. between 290th and 300th Rds. was taken by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis to St. Francis. Tampa ambulance also was dispatched as was a helicopter ambulance, but both were told to stand down. Lincolnville first responders provided initial care.

SUNDAY

1:32 a.m. — A 76-year-old man, weak and with a fever at Peabody Health and Rehab, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.

7:16 a.m. — A 55-year-old woman, possibly suffering from sepsis at Bethesda Home in Goessel, was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

1 p.m. — Before Marion ambulance arrived, a smartphone’s automated alert about a reportedly severe wreck on 120th Rd. west of Wagon Wheel Rd. was determined by Florence firefighters and sheriff’s deputies to have been a false alarm.

6:20 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman with rectal bleeding was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from a Parkside Homes duplex in Hillsboro.

8:56 p.m. — A 65-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke at a home in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the man.

9:28 p.m. — A report of a tree on fire near 290th and Wagon Wheel Rds. was determined by Lincolnville firefighters to have been a safe vestige of a previously unreported controlled burn of a brush pile. Firefighters told dispatchers that they informed the landowner of the need to report such fires in the future.

9:43 p.m. — A report from Harvey County of fire in trees at an unspecified location along US-50 just west of Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to have been a safe vestige of a previously reported controlled burn.

11:20 p.m. — A man complaining of head and neck pain after hitting a deer with his vehicle on Nighthawk Rd. south of 150th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:58 p.m. — Although Hillsboro ambulance initially announced that it would take the call, Marion ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from HCH to McPherson Center for Health.

MONDAY

2:23 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman not feeling well at Parkside nursing home in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:32 p.m. — An 86-year-old man with multiple fractures was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

10:08 p.m. — A 93-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at a farmhouse near 240th and Kanza Rds. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.
