SEPT. 24
9:49 a.m. — A Burns firefighter used a thermal imaging camera to help check for a wiring problem at a farmhouse on Timber Rd. just north of the county line.
4:56 p.m. — A 12-year-old boy bleeding after falling off a bicycle in the 500 block of Lawrence Ave. in Durham declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. A Durham first responder evaluated the patient before the ambulance arrived.
6:47 p.m. — Two Peabody fire trucks stood by until 8:32 p.m. during Peabody-Burns High School’s homecoming bonfire.
9:47 p.m. — A suspected natural gas leak outside a residence near 210th and Alamo Rds. was not found by Hillsboro firefighters. Sheriff’s deputies then reported a suspected leak at US-56 and K-15 / Bison Rd., but it, too, was not found. Kansas Gas Service was contacted to investigate further.
THURSDAY
7:23 a.m. — A 20-year-old man with appendicitis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital the McPherson Center for Health.
7:50 a.m. — A 17-year-old boy with a reportedly dislocated knee at Marion Elementary School was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.
3:26 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by until 6:36 p.m. during a cross-country meet . at Warrior Stadium in Marion.
8:48 p.m. — An 8-month-old boy with what was reported to be a broken arm or a dislocated shoulder at a farmhouse near 130th and Chisholm Trail Rds. was examined but not taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. A Goessel first responder evaluated the boy before the ambulance arrived.
FRIDAY
4:55 a.m. — Peabody firefighters were alerted to a fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody but were told it was a false alarm before they arrived.
5:20 p.m. — A Hillsboro fire truck was out of service until 7:48 p.m. at Big Truck Night at Memorial Park in Hillsboro.
6:05 p.m. — Tampa ambulance headed to Goessel to stand by until 8:18 p.m. at a football game.
6:28 p.m. — Marion ambulance headed to Peabody to stand by until 9:53 p.m. at a football game. The ambulance treated an unspecified patient at 9:35 p.m., but the patient declined to be taken to a hospital.
7:47 p.m. — Lincolnville firefighters were incorrectly notified by cell phone of a fire alarm that actually was a controlled burn.
SATURDAY
2:22 a.m. — An 83-year-old woman, still on the floor after falling at Salem Home in Hillsboro, was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:16 a.m. — Five Marion fire trucks, two Florence fire trucks, and Marion ambulance left to participate until shortly before noon in the Old Settlers Day parade in Marion.
12:16 p.m. — Marion firefighters were dispatched for a fire alarm in the kitchen at St. Luke Hospital but were notified before they arrived that it was a false alarm.
7:27 p.m. — Fire aboard a semi-trailer tanker hauling gasoline near Flying Eagle Truck Stop in Florence was extinguished within seven minutes by Florence firefighters. A county emergency manager also responded. Marion and Peabody firefighters and Marion ambulance were dispatched as well but told they weren’t needed before most of them arrived. Some confusion existed as dispatchers gave a different address, 10 miles away, when summoning the additional fire departments.
8:27 p.m. — A 32-year-old man with pancreatitis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC.
SUNDAY
12:22 a.m. — Marion ambulance was alerted to stand by to evaluate a man passed out in grass near Homestead Senior Residences in Marion, but law enforcement officers told dispatchers the man had arisen, and they no longer could find him.
12:41 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a man who fell at a home in the 600 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody, but the call was canceled by law enforcement officers.
2:14 p.m. — A person reportedly hit by a car at Main and Cedar Sts. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
6:55 p.m. — A woman yelling for help after reportedly falling and hurting her hip and wrists inside a locked home in the 600 block of Division St. in Peabody was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody firefighters helped ambulance attendants and law enforcement officers gain access to the home through a garage.
8:42 p.m. — Ambulance personnel had dispatchers contact Union Pacific Railroad and ask that it move train cars blocking Pawnee Rd. and 1st St. in Ramona initially that threatened to prevent Tampa ambulance from reaching a 59-year-old man with nausea caused by a tumor at a home in the 500 block of N. B St. in Ramona. A Dickinson County ambulance was dispatched in case the crossings could not be cleared, but the call was canceled. The man was taken to Abilene Memorial Hospital.
11:06 p.m. — A 74-year-old man with an obstructed small bowel was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC.
MONDAY
6:30 a.m. — A 54-year-old woman with continued nausea and vomiting after visiting an emergency room three days earlier was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance from the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence.
6:44 a.m. — With Marion ambulance headed to Florence, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to Dan Dr. and Gilham Rd. at Marion County Lake for a 64-year-old man who fell and lay outside on the ground all night. He was taken in serious condition to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
11:18 a.m. — A 67-year-old woman with sepsis was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Spine Hospital, Wichita.
3:53 p.m. — A 21-year-old woman who fell on courthouse stairs in Marion and broke her left ankle was taken by Marion ambulance to Wesley.
5:23 p.m. — Peabody firefighters performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation but failed to revive a person trapped in a grain truck that rolled over at 10th and Old Mill Rds.
Five minutes after Hillsboro ambulance arrived at 5:49 p.m., the person was pronounced dead by a physician at the scene. A call for a LifeSave helicopter ambulance nearing arrival was canceled.
Hillsboro ambulance remained at the wreck until a coroner arrived at 6:09 p.m.
5:25 p.m. — With Marion and Hillsboro ambulances busy, Tampa ambulance headed first to Hillsboro to stand by in case of additional calls, then to Goessel to stand by at a football game.
After ambulance attendants informed dispatchers that the Goessel game had been canceled, the ambulance was reassigned to stand by at a game in Hillsboro.
At 7:49 p.m., the ambulance transported an unspecified patient with a possibly dislocated shoulder from the game to HCH.
6:08 p.m. — Peabody firefighters turned off natural gas service to a home in the 200 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody after a leak was reported.
7:46 p.m. — An 89-year-old man with declining mental status was transferred on a physician’s orders from Parkside Homes apartments to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
