Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 14

7:24 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman who fell in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:38 a.m. — An 85-year-old woman with weakness and trouble breathing at Parkside apartments in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:41 p.m. — A fire alarm in a kitchen storeroom at St. Luke Hospital in Marion was determined by Marion firefighters to be a false alarm caused by a cooking accident.

6:42 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched for a medical alert initially reported to be in the 100 block of N. Cedar St., then in the 1300 block of Lawrence St., then in what was described only as the area between Marion Middle School and Marion High School.

A firefighter noticed the individual’s vehicle at the Sports and Aquatics Center. When ambulance attendants arrived, he told them he had accidentally pushed an alert button and did not have a cell phone to tell the alarm company it had been an accident.

11:06 a.m. — A 68-year-old man with a kidney stone was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

OCT. 15

4:52 a.m. — Marion firefighters helped lift an unspecified person at Bown-Corby Apartments in Marion.

8:11 p.m. — An 83-year-old woman with a dislocated jaw at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, and then back to Peabody Health and Rehab by Hillsboro ambulance.

THURSDAY

4:01 p.m. — An unspecified patient who may have suffered a stroke was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

4:51 p.m. — Lincolnville and briefly Lost Springs firefighters were sent to help Burdick firefighters free a person trapped in a grain truck that rolled over at BB Ave. and Smith St.

5:03 a.m. — Tampa ambulance left to stand by until 8:12 p.m. at a football game in Peabody.

5:39 p.m. — A fire alarm reported by an alarm company for a home in the 300 block of S. Eisenhower St. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm after they learned that the home specified did not have an alarm system.

5:51 p.m. — Goessel first responders left to stand by until 7:55 p.m. at a football game in Goessel.

6:46 p.m. — Two Marion fire engines were involved in training until 8:08 p.m. at Batt Industrial Park in Marion.

6:47 p.m. — Marion ambulance began standing by at a football game in Marion.

7:03 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance initially was called, but Marion ambulance ended up leaving its football game to transfer from Salem Home in Hillsboro to NMC Health an 85-year-old woman with leg pain after hip surgery.

FRIDAY

9:54 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was called for a schizophrenic 67-year-old woman with pneumonia and a urinary tract infection at Westview Manor in Peabody.

Without being dispatched, Marion ambulance also responded to the call in Peabody and asked dispatchers to page Peabody firefighters to potentially help with lifting or driving.

Tampa ambulance was ordered by a Hillsboro ambulance attendant to stand by in Hillsboro in case of additional calls.

Minutes later, dispatchers paged all three ambulances after Westview Manor called to ask for an additional ambulance to transport an unspecified second patient “not doing well” with an altered state of consciousness.

Hillsboro ambulance attendants asked that the call be assigned to Tampa ambulance.

Peabody firefighters inquired how long it would be before any of the ambulances arrived. Tampa ambulance estimated 30 minutes. Marion ambulance estimated 15 minutes. Hillsboro ambulance did not respond.

One of the Tampa ambulance attendants asked that Newton ambulance, which would be closer, be sent instead, but a Hillsboro attendant canceled the request and told Tampa ambulance to continue to Peabody.

Marion ambulance made contact with what appeared to be the first patient at 10:22 a.m. Six minutes later, a Hillsboro ambulance attendant told Tampa ambulance to stand downl.

Tampa ambulance attendants said they would be returning to Tampa but instead were told by a Hillsboro attendant to stand by in Hillsboro.

At 10:33 a.m., Marion ambulance announced that it would be taking a patient to NMC. Hillsboro ambulance initially announced that its patient had declined to be taken to a hospital but then said the patient would be taken to HCH. A Peabody firefighter announced that he, too, would be headed to Hillsboro, possibly as a driver for the ambulance.

Tampa ambulance was allowed to return to Tampa at 11:07 a.m., arriving at 11:44 a.m.

11:37 a.m. — A Peabody firefighter told dispatchers he would be helping lift an uninjured elderly woman who called him directly after falling at a home in the 300 block of Vine St. in Peabody.

12:22 p.m. — A 54-year-old person with kidney failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by until 3:18 p.m. at Canada in case of additional calls.

3:48 p.m. — Fire in a pickup truck on US-56 west of Falcon Rd. was extinguished within 15 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters. A paving crew volunteered to let firefighters use its water truck.

4:51 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance and Goessel first responders were dispatched for a 65-year-old woman with chest tightness and labored breathing at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

However, a Hillsboro ambulance attendant responded that Marion ambulance, 27 miles away, should be dispatched instead, and that only a one-person ambulance supervisory vehicle would be sent from Hillsboro.

Goessel first responders did not answer the page, but Tampa ambulance again was told to stand by in Hillsboro.

Marion ambulance took the patient to NMC Health.

6:51 p.m. — Goessel first responders left to stand by until 8:40 p.m. at a football game in Goessel.

6:59 p.m. — Tampa ambulance relocated from the Hillsboro ambulance station to stand by until 9:18 p.m. at a football game in Hillsboro.

7:28 p.m. — Marion ambulance left to stand by until 9:29 p.m. at a football game in Marion.

7:45 p.m. — After being paged four times, Tampa firefighters responded to a report of a possible grass fire on 330th Rd. between Limestone and Indigo Rds. but after 15 minutes found only a single smoldering hay bale, fire from which was deemed unlikely to spread.

SATURDAY

4:38 a.m. — A 22-year-old woman with severe abdominal pain after recently giving birth was taken by Marion ambulance to NMC Health from a home near Lakeshore Dr. and Valley Rd. at Marion County Lake.

8:19 a.m. — Goessel, Lincolnville, Lost Springs, and Marion firefighters went to Marion County Lake for training until 3:43 p.m.

11:30 a.m. — A diabetic 86-year-old woman suffering seizures at a home in the 200 block of W. 2nd St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:04 p.m. — An apparently uninjured 85-year-old woman who activated a medical alarm pendant after falling outside her back door in the 300 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

SUNDAY

No fire or ambulance dispatches..

MONDAY

6:59 p.m. — A woman with stroke-like symptoms at a home the 100 block of County Rd. in Tampa declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance.
