Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
NOV. 18
6:20 a.m. — A 57-year-old man who suffered a heart attack was transferred by Marion ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The call originally went to Hillsboro ambulance, but Marion ambulance volunteered to take it instead.
9:20 a.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to transfer a 64-year-old woman with chest pains from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Kansas Heart but later informed dispatchers that the patient probably would be transferred by helicopter instead.
NOV. 19
6:39 a.m. — A 97-year-old woman having trouble breathing at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
12:01 p.m. — A worker whose hand became caught in a conveyor belt at Barkman Honey in Hillsboro was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters were called to extricate the worker, but the worker’s hand was freed before they arrived.
12:28 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance on another call, Marion ambulance was assigned to transfer a 75-year-old man having trouble breathing from Salem Home in Hillsboro to HCH.
THURSDAY
11:07 a.m. — An 83-year-old man who fell at Salem Home was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH. The county ambulance director also responded to the call.
6:49 p.m. — A 12-year-old girl who lost consciousness and had labored breathing at Peabody-Burns High School was examined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital. Marion ambulance initially responded as well but stood down after the girl regained consciousness.
9:54 p.m. — A 67-year-old man bleeding from earlier surgery was taken by Marion ambulance from the 600 block of S. 4th St. in Marion to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
FRIDAY
12:59 a.m. — A 3-year-old girl bitten on the nose by a dog at a home in the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro was examined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital.
7:45 a.m. — A lethargic 87-year-old woman at Parkside Homes apartments in Hillsboro was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded to the call.
8:17 a.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched to check a car smoking at US-50 and Kanza Rd. A sheriff’s deputy reported that the car’s radiator was overheating.
9:07 a.m. — A garage fire in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was extinguished within seven minutes by Florence firefighters. Marion and Peabody firefighters and Marion ambulance also were dispatched but were told before they arrived that they would not be needed.
11:14 a.m. — A hospice patient at a home near Marion Reservoir was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH.
2:36 p.m. — A 54-year-old woman lethargic at a home in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence after surgery several weeks earlier was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
5:18 p.m. — A 92-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart.
8:33 p.m. — An uninjured 64-year-old woman who fell at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
10:57 p.m. — A 27-year-old woman, shaking and having trouble taking deep breaths at a home in the 400 block of S. Birch St., was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
SATURDAY
2:37 a.m. — A 58-year-old woman with a neurological issue was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis.
12:18 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman feeling dizzy — possibly from anxiety, according to a law enforcement officer —was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC from a home in the 700 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
3:03 p.m. — A 91-year-old woman with pneumonia was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis.
5:55 p.m. — A vehicle reported to be smoking after a wreck on US-56/77 at 230th Rd. was checked by Marion firefighters, but no fire was found. Firefighters disconnected the vehicle’s battery.
6:21 p.m. — An Atmos Energy worker asked Florence firefighters to help with what he described as a major natural gas leak at Marion and 11th Sts. in Florence, but the first firefighters to arrive reported that they had the situation in hand and additional help would not be needed. Some firefighters remained on the scene until after 8 p.m.
7:18 p.m. — An 87-year-old man who was reported to have a fluid buildup and low oxygen level at a Parkside Homes apartment was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
SUNDAY
12:04 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with stomach pain at a home in the 300 block of N. Adams St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance assisted by Hillsboro first responders.
4:55 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with an obstructed bowel was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC.
