Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

DEC. 16

3:32 a.m. — A woman who hurt her neck and chest in a one-vehicle wreck south of 260th Rd. on Remington Rd. was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville firefighters also were dispatched but were told they would not be needed.

10:04 p.m. — A 51-year-old man with cardiac problems at Hillsboro Community Hospital was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

DEC. 17

12:19 p.m. — A 35-year-old man with sepsis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita. The call originally went to Marion ambulance.

3:48 p.m. — Unattended smoldering of a small pile of sawdust at the Marion tree dump was extinguished within 15 minutes by Marion firefighters.

6:18 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at Marion Assisted Living was taken the St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

11:20 p.m. — An uninjured 83-year-old man who fell at a house in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. Marion firefighters also were called but then told they would not be needed. The man declined to be taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

12:43 p.m. — Two Marion firefighters tended to a flare-up at the Marion tree dump.

4:02 p.m. — A grass fire in a ditch along US-56 at Goldenrod Rd. was extinguished within an hour by Hillsboro, Marion, and Durham firefighters.

5 p.m. — A 71-year-old man with a bladder obstruction at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Marion ambulance. The call originally was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance.

5:50 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched for a report of illegal, unattended burning a mile south of US-50 and Kanza Rds. in Harvey County. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. A call for assistance from Walton firefighters was canceled. Harvey County deputies contacted the landowner.

9:37 p.m. — A 39-year-old woman with pneumonia at HCH was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.

10:29 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance on its way to Wichita, Marion ambulance was dispatched to Parkside Homes duplexes in Hillsboro for an 85-year-old woman who vomited.

10:33 p.m. — Marion ambulance was diverted to a third call — a 52-year-old man with chest pain and trouble breathing at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion. The Parkside Homes call was reassigned to Tampa ambulance.

The Homestead patient was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. The Parkside patient was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance an hour after the initial call came in. Hillsboro first responders were paged but did not answer.

10:50 p.m. — Lincolnville firefighters were dispatched to a one-vehicle wreck on US-56/77 south of Centre High School. After taking its patient to St. Luke, Marion ambulance went to the wreck, arriving 32 minutes after the original call. The driver declined to be taken to a hospital.

FRIDAY

12:41 a.m. — A 94-year-old man needing surgery was ordered transferred by Tampa ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health. The call originally went to Marion ambulance, was switched to Hillsboro ambulance, was reassigned to Tampa ambulance, and finally was canceled. A different, unspecified patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

4:12 a.m. — A 69-year-old man with trouble breathing at a home in the 300 block of Lincoln Ave. in Tampa was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance.

7:47 p.m. — A 73-year-old man who suffered a stroke was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

SATURDAY

1:45 a.m. — A 59-year-old man with an imbalance in blood chemicals was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis.

7:01 a.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at a home in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:25 a.m. — Fire burning three campers close to a tree line at a farm near 170th and Falcon Rds. were battled for almost 2½ hours by Hillsboro and Goessel firefighters. Two people who live nearby were checked for smoke inhalation by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:11 p.m. — A 95-year-old woman with knee pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Parkside Homes to NMC Health.

6:01 p.m. — An unspecified patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Salina Regional Health Center.

10:07 p.m. — An agitated 80-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Parkside Homes to HCH.
