Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 6

2:16 a.m. — A 55-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence was taken by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. Florence firefighters made initial contact with the patient.

8:58 a.m. — Presumably the same patient, now diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.

1:08 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman with chest pain and pain from a recent surgery declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance from a home in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence.

3:45 p.m. — A ditch fire on 290th Rd. between Limestone and Kanza Rds. was extinguished within 20 minutes by Tampa and Durham firefighters.

4:43 p.m. — People involved in a two-vehicle accident at US-56 and Cedar St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters also were dispatched. An ambulance supervisor and Hillsboro ambulance initially responded but were not needed.

6:26 p.m. — A 61-year-old woman with gastrointestinal issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

7:26 p.m. — A smoking electrical socket at an apartment in the 400 block of S. Ash St. was investigated by Hillsboro firefighters, who determined that there was no fire.

9:03 p.m. — A 58-year-old man who hurt his head when he fell down stairs at a home in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Goessel was taken to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

JAN. 7

12:45 p.m. — Marion ambulance initially was called for an 82-year-old man who fell at a home on Random Rd. at Marion County Lake, but the call quickly was canceled when dispatchers reported that he would be taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.

8:35 p.m. — Marion ambulance and Lincolnville firefighters and first responders were called after dispatchers received a vague report of a traffic accident on US-56/77 near 240th Rd. The accident turned out to be a car/deer crash. Firefighters were not needed to remove debris from the road. The ambulance and first responders continued after it was reported that the driver had been suffering atrial fibrillation before the crash, but he declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:51 p.m. — An 81-year-old man with chest pains at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

THURSDAY

2:25 p.m. — On a physician’s orders, Marion ambulance transferred a 60-year-old man with altered mental status from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC Health. The call originally went to Hillsboro ambulance.

7:53 p.m. — A 66-year-old woman with arm pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley.

FRIDAY

5:53 a.m. — A 64-year-old woman who fell and may have broken her leg or ankle outside a home on US-56 east of Upland Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters were called to help lift the woman.

SATURDAY

8:55 a.m. — A 50-year-old woman feeling weak and dizzy at a home on Zebulon Rd. near 30th Rd. and US-77 was taken to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders arrived within 12 minutes and provided initial care until the ambulance arrived 11 minutes later.

2:33 p.m. — A 99-year-old man with back pain at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

2:48 p.m. — An 80-year-old man not responding normally while visiting Parkside Homes declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:40 p.m. — With no dispatches being recorded on either of the newspaper’s scanners, Marion ambulance reported that it was taking a patient to NMC Health.

MONDAY

5:39 a.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 300 block of E. Maria St. in Lehigh declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:36 a.m. — An uninjured 91-year-old man who fell at a home in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:53 a.m. — A LifeSafe helicopter ambulance transferred a St. Luke patient to an unspecified Wichita hospital.

1:02 p.m. — A 15-year-old girl having a seizure at Marion Special Education Cooperative was examined by Marion ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital.

6:03 p.m. — An uninjured 83-year-old woman who fell at a home near US-77 and 210th Rd. was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

9:17 p.m. — A 60-year-old man who fell at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
