Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 13

10:19 a.m. — A stroke patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Because Marion ambulance was not staffed at the time,. Tampa ambulance was dispatched to stand by in Hillsboro until 12:32 p.m. in case of additional calls.

12:02 p.m. — Marion firefighters checked a natural gas odor detected by a mail carrier outside an unoccupied residence in the 200 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion. Firefighters shut off the gas supply pending arrival of an Atmos Energy crew. Vacationing homeowners were contacted and arranged for a relative to come to the house with a key.

7:14 p.m. — Without being dispatched, Hillsboro ambulance transported another patient from HCH to Wesley. By this time, Marion ambulance apparently was staffed, so no call for Tampa ambulance to stand by was made.

JAN. 14

7:11 a.m. — A disoriented, diabetic 60-year-old woman who fell at a house in the 300 block of S. 1st St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the woman.

9:02 a.m. — A 90-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a house near 190th and Kanza Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:14 a.m. — A 46-year-old woman who collapsed with stroke-like symptoms at Container Services in Hillsboro was taken by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis to Wesley. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

12:03 p.m. — Police and Marion ambulance were dispatched for a 22-year-old man who was reported to be intoxicated and making suicidal comments at Prairie View mental health center in Hillsboro. After police secured the scene, the ambulance took the man to HCH.

1:47 p.m. — A 66-year-old woman with altered mental status was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.

9:25 p.m. — A 27-year-old man needing a neurology consultation was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

THURSDAY

10:27 a.m. — A 66-year-old woman who had diabetic episode at Peabody Health and Rehab was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on a physician’s orders to NMC Health.

10:43 a.m. — A burning brush pile on 90th Rd. west of Indigo Rd. was brought under control within 30 minutes by Peabody firefighters.

1:56 p.m. — A 68-year-old man who fell and may have broken a rib at a house in the 300 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

3:10 p.m. — Without being dispatched, Hillsboro ambulance reported to St. Luke to transfer an 18-year-old patient to Wesley.

3:56 p.m. — Burns firefighters helped Chase County firefighters with a fire involving a tractor and hay baler on B Rd. north of 50th Rd. in Chase County.

7:36 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

10:25 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters determined that a fire alarm at Harms Hall on the Tabor College campus was a false alarm caused by a cooking accident.

FRIDAY

5:21 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman having trouble breathing with some stroke-like symptoms at a house in the 300 block of S. Prospect Ave. in Lehigh declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:21 p.m. — An unreported controlled burn near Olive and 1st Sts. in Peabody was extinguished within 11 minutes by Peabody firefighters.

SATURDAY

3:59 a.m. — A fire alarm at Alexanderwohl Church was determined by Goessel firefighters to be a false alarm.

7:07 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a house in the 300 block of W. Arbor Ct. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance and instead was taken by a family member.

12:46 p.m. — A 62-year-old man complaining of possibly having a heart attack at a farmhouse near 100th and Alamo Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders arrived within 15 minutes, reported that alcohol might be involved, and provided care until the ambulance arrived five minutes later.

8:01 p.m. — A 92-year-old man who fell and cut his nose at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:44 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman in the 400 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion whose hand was severely scratched by her cat declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

SUNDAY

7:06 a.m. — For the second time this week, a 90-year-old woman with trouble breathing at a house near 130th and Kanza Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:34 a.m. — A 27-year-old man who suffered a seizure at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

1:52 p.m. — One of two people involved in a two-vehicle wreck at 260th and Sunflower Rds. was taken to St. Francis by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville firefighters and first responders, Marion rescue squad, and a helicopter ambulance also were dispatched, but all except the Lincolnville units were told they weren’t needed before they arrived.

6:12 p.m. — A 58-year-old woman with a fever and low blood-oxygen level at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

8:28 a.m. — A 75-year-old man with altered mental status at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:42 p.m. — An uninjured woman of unspecified age who fell and could not get up at a home on US-77 near 200th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

8:29 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a 69-year-old man with chest pains and chills at Peabody Health and Rehab. An ambulance attendant asked that police also be dispatched and reported that the patient was be taken not by ambulance but by Peabody police to the Dole Veterans Affairs Hospital in Wichita.

11:50 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with a dislocated jaw was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC Health.
