Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

FEB. 10

12:03 a.m. — An 83-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a farmhouse near US-50 and 90th Rd. was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:25 a.m. — A 32-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health.

10:46 a.m. — A 55-year-old woman with a fractured hip was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The call originally went to Marion ambulance.

FEB. 11

7:33 a.m. — A 90-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home near 190th and Kanza Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:40 a.m. — A 29-year-old woman with rib pain and a racing heart after jumping into a pool at the Sports and Aquatics Center in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

1:34 p.m. — A report of smoke near 280th and Yarrow Rds. was investigated by Marion firefighters and Lincolnville firefighters, who initially did not answer multiple pages. The first firefighter to arrive determined that the smoke was from an unreported controlled burn.

2:06 p.m. — A 40-year-old man with heart attack symptoms was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The call originally went to Marion ambulance.

2:58 p.m. — Reports of pasture fires south of Aulne and at 110th and Yarrow Rds. were determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.

8:32 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with high blood sugar at the county jail was checked by Marion ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

1:16 a.m. — Marion ambulance returned to the jail and again checked the same patient, but he again declined to be taken to a hospital.

5:02 a.m. — A 77-year-old woman with cardiac issues was taken by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

10:12 a.m. — A person who walked into the Hillsboro ambulance station was examined but declined to be taken to a hospital.

4:20 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman with kidney failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.

7:41 p.m. — Marion ambulance and firefighters were dispatched to a wreck near Garfield and Main Sts. in Marion. The driver involved declined to be taken to a hospital. City workers dealt with a downed power line.

FRIDAY

7:18 a.m. — Smoke from a two-week-old controlled burn near 120th and Quail Creek Rds. was investigated by Peabody firefighters.

12:40 p.m. — A 54-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.

11:26 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman with atrial fibrillation was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

SATURDAY

9:58 a.m. — A 92-year-old woman on blood thinners with a nosebleed at a home in the 500 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:05 p.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined to be a false alarm before Peabody firefighters arrived.

2:24 p.m. — A 77-year-old man experiencing back spasms near 160th and Diamond Rd. while en route to a hospital was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

11:45 a.m. — A fire alarm at Peabody Health and Rehab was determined to have been accidentally activated before Peabody firefighters arrived.

3:13 p.m. — An 88-year-old woman hit by a car at Peabody Township Library was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

MONDAY

2:26 a.m. — Emergency workers were unable to reach a vehicle that caught fire while stuck in mud on 110th Rd. between Jade and Kanza Rds. Peabody firefighters were called to make sure the fire was out, and Hillsboro ambulance was called to check the confused driver, who had been trying to free his vehicle for several hours. However, the ambulance became stuck more than a mile away as well. Firefighters had to pull it out. The driver had to walk to where firefighters could reach him. They then took him to the ambulance to be checked. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

12:45 p.m. — A 90-year-old man who fell and was unable to get up at farm this side of the McPherson County line between 100th and 110th Rds. was helped by Hillsboro ambulance attendants, who briefly became stuck in mud. The man declined to be taken to a hospital. A Goessel first responder attempted to respond as well but became stuck in mud.

5:41 p.m. — An 84-year-old man with a pulmonary embolism was transferred from St. Luke to St. Joseph by Hillsboro ambulance. The call originally went to Marion ambulance.
