Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MAY 26

12:08 a.m. — A 71-year-old man who fell in the 400 block of S. Main St. in Hillsboro was taken on an emergency basis by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift him.

12:15 p.m. — A 76-year-old woman with atrial fibrillation at Murphy Wellness Clinic in Peabody was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

4:43 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman, lethargic and suffering chest pains outside Marion Assisted Living, was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance.

6:15 p.m. — With Marion ambulance out of the county, an 85-year-old woman who may have suffered a stroke was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

MAY 27

1:37 a.m. — A 37-year-old man, reported by law enforcement to be shaky and hyperventilating in a vehicle near US-56 and Timber Rd., declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

7:08 a.m. — An 80-year-old man with an altered mental status after falling in the 200 block of Briarwood Ln. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

10:50 a.m. — A 70-year-old man bleeding after being thrown by a bull onto his head at Hillsboro Animal Clinic was taken to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

1:05 p.m. — A 75-year-old woman with trouble breathing at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance director also responded.

1:47 p.m. — A 75-year-old man with heart failure was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.

7:53 p.m. — A 47-year-old woman with a surgical infection was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

11:24 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman was helped by Marion ambulance attendants out of her chair at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

7:21 a.m. — An 81-year-old woman with stomach pain and trouble breathing in the 1200 block of Nickerson St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:35 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from St. Luke to Wesley.

12:43 p.m. — A 34-year-old woman with a kidney infection was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.

3:01 p.m. — A 55-year-old man with a broken tibia was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

4:29 p.m. — With Marion ambulance out of the county, an 81-year-old woman with heart failure was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.

6:41 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

6:47 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman with chest pain at a home in the 300 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

9:56 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

1:52 a.m. — Florence firefighters and Marion ambulance were dispatched for a semi-trailer truck that rolled onto its side on US-50 near Bluestem Rd. The driver declined to be taken to a hospital, but firefighters had to deal with a refrigeration unit that threatened to start a fire and with traffic control for more than 5 hours. The county emergency manager also responded.

9:12 a.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.

11:47 a.m. — Fire originating from an electric cord entering a farmhouse near 370th and Limestone Rds. was out by the time Ramona firefighters arrived. Tampa, and Lost Springs firefighters and Tampa ambulance also were dispatched but were told to stand down.

3:12 p.m. — A 20-year-old woman with appendicitis was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health.

3:32 p.m. — A vehicle fully engolfed in flames near 140th and Kanza Rd. was extinguished within 14 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters, who remained on the scene until 4:17 p.m.

6:19 p.m. — A nurse reportedly attacked by a patient at Westview Manor in Peabody drove herself to a hospital and canceled a call for Hillsboro ambulance. Police and sheriff’s deputies also responded.

SATURDAY

3:46 a.m. — An 81-year-old man who fell in the 300 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:51 p.m. — A 66-year-old man with congestive heart failure at HCH was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Kansas Heart.

SUNDAY

6:50 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman who fell at Bethesda Home in Goessel was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health.

7:14 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance out of the county, an 88-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home in the 200 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro until 8:27 p.m. in case of additional calls.

8:53 p.m. — A 7-week-old boy not acting right at a farmhouse near 170th and Falcon Rds. was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital.

10:51 p.m. — At the request of the county emergency manager, tornado sirens were activated in Durham as a precaution after a large area of rotation but no other indication of a tornado was noted within a storm south of Durham and east of K-15.

11:22 p.m. — Police attempted to activate tornado sirens in Marion, as well, but sirens in the valley initially did not come on. They did the second time the sirens were activated, seeming to surprise at least one Marion firefighter.

MONDAY

6:09 p.m. — A 34-year-old man who wrecked a dirt bike and may have broken a leg near 130th and Diamond Rds. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders arrived within nine minutes and provided care until the ambulance arrived 11 minutes later.

6:58 p.m. — Goessel, Hillsboro, Peabody, and Walton firefighters and Marion ambulance were dispatched after the roof of a building’s reportedly caught on fire during an unapproved controlled burn on 80th Rd. between Eagle and Falcon Rds. Peabody firefighters were first on the scene and canceled the call to other departments, but emergency management and environmental health officials responded because of the unapproved nature of the controlled burn. Firefighters and officials remained at the scene for about 1½ hours.
