Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 23

9:58 p.m. — A driver whose hand was injured when airbags deployed after a vehicle hit a deer on US-56 west of Chisholm Trail Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:19 p.m. — A 57-year-old man who thought he was having a heart attack at the county jail declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

JUNE 24

1:11 a.m. — An uninjured 87-year-old man who fell at Parkside Homes apartments in Hillsboro was helped up and declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:04 p.m. — A 16-year-old girl with abdominal abscesses was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

3:42 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman with back pain at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

3:44 p.m. — A smoldering utility pole between Marion Elementary School and Marion Cemetery was monitored by Marion firefighters until city electric workers arrived to address the situation.

THURSDAY

10:59 a.m. — A 68-year-old man with gall bladder issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Salina Regional Medical Center.

11:50 a.m. — A 2-month-old boy who reportedly fell down a set of stairs at a home in the 700 block of Santa Fe St. in Durham was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital. Durham first responders arrived within seven minutes and cared for the boy until the ambulance arrived five minutes later.

4:21 p.m. — A medical alarm on behalf of an 80-year-old woman at an apartment in the 500 block of W. 1st St. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants to have been accidentally activated.

8:37 p.m. — A fire alarm at Salem Home in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be a false alarm caused by a cooking accident.

FRIDAY

8:35 a.m. — A 63-year-old woman having trouble with an intravenous feeding tube at a home in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

9:36 a.m. — An 84-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health, Newton.

1:31 p.m. — A 72-year-old man who fell at CK Pharmacy in Peabody was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:29 p.m. — An emotionally disturbed 83-year-old woman who cut her wrists at Salem Home in Hillsboro was examined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants and was taken to HCH by Salem Home staff with an ambulance supervisor following them.

4:17 p.m. — Florence, Marion, Peabody, and Hillsboro firefighters battled for 3½ hours to control a smoky fire that trapped two people in the back room of a house in the 200 block of W. 7th St. in Florence. The two were freed before the house’s roof collapsed. They were taken by Marion ambulance and a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Tampa ambulance, a sole medic aboard Hillsboro ambulance, and an off-duty medic also were dispatched to check four injured firefighters, all of whom declined to be taken to a hospital. County emergency managers also responded. Florence firefighters remained on watch at the house until 8:42 a.m.

9:20 p.m. — Two people involved in a car-deer accident in which air bags were deployed near 100th and Indigo Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by the backup ambulance.

11:09 p.m. — An 81-year-old man with chest pains at a farmhouse near 120th and Holly Rds. was taken to NMC by the backup ambulance.

SATURDAY

2:32 a.m. — An elderly woman who fell at a home in the 300 block of W. B St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by the backup ambulance.

10:24 a.m. — A 63-year-old woman with a nosebleed and a blood disorder was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The call originally went to Hillsboro ambulance but was changed at the request of Hillsboro ambulance attendants.

10:54 a.m. — Florence firefighters returned to the house fire on 7th St. in Florence and remained there for 2½ hours.

10:55 a.m. — With Marion ambulance headed to Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a 74-year-old woman suspected of having a stroke overnight at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion. She was taken to St. Luke.

1:18 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman with a back injury was transferred by the backup ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita.

3:59 p.m. — Florence firefighters were sent back to the 7th St. fire and spent 15 minutes dealing with trees on fire behind the house.

6:49 p.m. — One of two women reportedly attacked by a resident of Westview Manor in Peabody were taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. One of the women reportedly was pushed into a wall, suffering a possibly broken rib and head injuries. The other, who is pregnant, reportedly was punched in the face and arm. Marion ambulance initially was dispatched, and Tampa ambulance initially was sent to Hillsboro to stand by in case of additional calls, but both told to stand down before the ambulances arrived.

9:11 p.m. — An 82-year-old man who fell and hurt his hip at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to NMC by the backup ambulance.

9:55 p.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor was determined by an alarm company to be a false alarm before Peabody firefighters arrived.

11:35 p.m. — A 78-year-old man who ran out of oxygen at a home in the 200 block of S. Coble St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

SUNDAY

10:42 a.m. — A nurse bleeding from her mouth after reportedly being struck by a male patient at Westview Manor declined to be taken to a hospital by the backup ambulance.

12:23 p.m. — Marion ambulance was called back to a home in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence where a woman again was having trouble with a feeding tube. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:30 p.m. — An unconscious 70-year-old woman who suffered a seizure at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. After being paged five times, three Marion firefighters helped lift the patient.

3:45 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched to transfer an 81-year-old man with heart problems from HCH but was told to return to its station before arriving at the hospital.

4:02 p.m. — A 27-year-old man suffering a seizure at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was taken to NMC by the backup ambulance.

4:31 p.m. — With the backup ambulance in Peabody, Marion ambulance was dispatched for an 88-year-old woman having atrial fibrillation at a home in the 400 block of E. 1st St. in Hillsboro. She was taken to HCH. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift her. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro until 5:42 p.m. in case of additional calls.

6:18 p.m. — A transfer, originally ordered at 3:45 p.m., from HCH to Salina Regional Medical Center, was completed by the backup ambulance.

8:12 p.m. — Marion ambulance was sent to Indian Guide Terrace where the 27-year-old man taken to NMC at 4:02 p.m. passed out after returning from the hospital. He decided to have relatives instead of the ambulance take him back to the hospital.

9:23 p.m. — An 88-year-old woman, possibly the same patient from earlier, was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to St. Francis.

MONDAY

4:59 a.m. — A 41-year-old man who suffered a heart attack was transferred by the backup ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

6:24 a.m. — The same 70-year-old woman who suffered a seizure 16 hours earlier at Marion Assisted Living was taken back to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters again were called to help lift the woman.

9:56 a.m. — A 65-year-old man with chest pains at a home in the 200 block of Grandview St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

12:56 p.m. — Amid winds of more than 20 mph, fire on a tractor and a swather along 100th Rd. between Pawnee and Old Mill Rds. was extinguished within an hour by Peabody firefighters.
