Emma Allen
Emma Allen, 100, of Dodge City, died April 15, 2009.
Born Oct. 9, 1908, in Kansas City, Mo., she was the daughter of John Henry and Christina (Hopp) Schimpf.
She grew up in Marion County and was a homemaker most of her life.
On Nov. 28, 1935, she married Ernest W. Hagen at Strassburg Church, rural Marion. They lived and farmed near Cimarron until 1947 when Ernest died.
On March 4, 1961, she married Harry F. Allen at First United Methodist Church, Dodge City. They lived on a farm near Dodge City until Harry’s death in 1989 when she moved to Dodge City.
Four brothers, Henry Schimpf, Louis Schimpf, Alexander Schimpf, and Ezra Schimpf, and three sisters, Leah Stenzel, Rachel MacGowan, and Eva Schimpf preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Richard E. Hagan of Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Doris Ann Brainard of Dodge City; two sisters, Lydia Batt of Marion and Hannah Wood of Hutchinson; a stepson, Leon Allen of Dodge City; a stepdaughter, Nova Rima of Perryton, Texas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is at 10 a.m. May 16 at First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, with the Reverend Lance Carrithers presiding.
There will be no public visitation. Friends may sign a register from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 15 at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
A memorial fund has been established with the music program at First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
