Esther J. Stucky

Esther J. Stucky, 87, a lifelong resident of the Peabody and Burns area, died at Elm Haven East in Parsons, Kansas at 2:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 15, 2014. She had been in failing health.

Esther was born near Peabody on July 17, 1927 to Harry and Olga (Zleh) Hess.

On Aug. 5, 1945, Esther married David Stucky. For much of her adult life she was a homemaker in addition to having held jobs at Keller’s Men’s Store, Legacy Park Nursing Home, and Peabody Elementary School.

Esther had accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, was baptized and was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Burns, which is now the Burns Countryside Church. She remained committed to her church and her family throughout her life.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Redford of Parsons and her husband, Hal; Cathy Chambers of Lamar, Missouri, and her husband Roger; and Susan Good of Peabody, and her husband, Chuck; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Hess of Kechi, and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Stucky; her son-in-law, Hal Sanders; her sister, Dorothy Johnson and six brothers, Oliver, Edward, Daniel, Albert, Raymond, and Clifford Hess.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at the Burns Countryside Church, 204 Yarrow, Burns, Kansas. Burial will be in the Burns Countryside Church Cemetery. The family will received friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday Sept. 18, 2014, at Gracepoint Church, 802 Vine, Peabody, Kansas. The Baker Funeral Home of Peabody is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Burns Countryside Church of Burns. They may be sent the Baker Funeral Home, 114 N Sycamore St, Peabody, KS 66866.
