Familiar face tabbed as road director

Steve Hudson, former lake superintendent and acting director of the road and bridge department, officially was hired Monday as head of the county’s road and bridge department.

Commissioners did not set a salary. That will to be taken up at later.

County engineer Brice Goebel resigned May 8, saying the job caused stress to him and his family.

Two weeks later, when reviewing what they wanted for the department, commissioners decided to hire a road and bridge supervisor instead of an engineer .

Hudson, who at the time road and bridge supervisor, became acting department head July 5, Goebel’s final day.

Commissioners also took the formal first steps Monday toward hiring a county administrator, signing a contract with the League of Kansas Municipalities to search for a candidate.

The county had voted July 1 to selected the league, which had The league bid $14,896 to $15,469 to conduct the search and promised to impose no additional fees within a year.

Under the contract with the league, the league will designate a representative to work with commissioners, help write an advertisement, review applicants’ resumes, recommend candidates, arrange background checks s, and notify all candidates when the position is filled.

If all candidates are rejected or no one is hired in 12 months, the league’s contract for the search will end.
