FamLee Bakery expands business

Staff writer

After two and a half years on Main St., FamLee Bakery in Marion is expanding its business to reach out-of-area customers.

The bakery now offers FamLee Bakery Boxes, shipped by mail, containing four signature cinnamon rolls, two specialty rolls, and six scones. Two of the scones will be “flavor of the month” scones and a recipe card will be included.

“We really want to give value to our friends,” co-owner Catie Zurcher said. “Every month they can look forward to tasting it and then making it for their friends.”

Boxes will be by subscription and will sell for $45 a month with free shipping anywhere in the U.S.

Zurcher said she developed the mail order box idea because the bakery had so many followers on social media.

“We had so many Internet followers, we looked into expanding our customer base,” she said.

She said she’s heard stories of people eating pastry, especially scones, and saying the products are dry and awful.

“The people in this county know what scones should taste like,” Zurcher said.

Orders will be shipped out on the fourth day of each month. The pastries will be made fresh shortly before shipping, so a limited number of boxes will be available each month, she said.

“Each will be individually sealed,” Zurcher said.

Subscribers can cancel their subscriptions at any time.

FamLee Bakery, owned by Zurcher, her sister Jenny Craft, and her parents Jeff and Dawn Lee, opened the doors in September 2016.

The introduction of bakery boxes is the second expansion of the business, which began offering lunch about a year ago.
