Few tricks, lots of treats in store this weekend

Marion County trick-or-treaters can look forward to a weekend of fun.

Hillsboro

From 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Hillsboro’s Chamber of Commerce will have Trick or Treat on Main St.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Hillsboro’s Museum and Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will have a pumpkin decorating contest at the Hillsboro Visitors Center in Memorial Park. Pumpkins and supplies will be provided. Pumpkins will be judged at 4 p.m. and winners will be announced at 5 p.m.

From 3 to 6 p.m., Nex-Tech Wireless will have a carnival in the 100 block of E. Grand Ave.

Marion

A full evening of events is planned on Marion Main St. Saturday during its Spooktacular Halloween party.

From 6 to 7 p.m., children may trick or treat business on Main St.

Marion City Library will give a free book to each child outside at the library’s new gazebo.

At 6 p.m., participants in a carving contest may bring their pumpkins to the stage in Marion City Park. For $1, visitors may vote for their favorite.

From 7 to 11 p.m., a street dance with live music by the Trent Crisswell Band will take place downtown.

Peabody

From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Peabody will have its annual Trunk or Treat on Walnut St. sponsored by Peabody Main St. Association.

Trunks will be set up at 4 p.m. Participants can set up a truck bed, trunk of a car, or lawn chair to give out treats.

Prizes of $40, $60, and $100 will be awarded for decorated trunks. A prize for a children’s costume contest is $10 in Peabody bucks.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Main Street Beautique will serve grilled hotdogs and chips.

The Sunflower Theatre also will have chili and cinnamon rolls at Pop’s Diner.

Short Halloween classics from the 1930s will be shown at the Sunflower Theatre during trunk or treat.

At 7:30 p.m., the theater will show classic horror film “The Corpse Vanishes.”
