Florence to have sweet time
Staff writer
A new business in Florence offers sweets, gifts, and basics to shoppers.
Parents and children love the shop because kids can come to it to buy candy without crossing US-77, according to co-owner Sue Wikoff, for whom Sue’s Gifts and More is named.
Sue and her husband, Paul, opened the store last month as the first of three businesses to be housed in the same building.
The next business they will put in will be a coin laundry, and a car restoration shop will be added after that. The doors to those businesses will open on 6th St.
The upstairs of the building will be renovated into apartments, Paul Wikoff said.
Located at 523 Main St., Sue’s Gifts and More offers an eclectic assortment of gift items, jams, jerky, apparel, soda in glass bottles, tumblers, vinyl albums, lamps, old-fashioned candies, snacks, candles, and home decor.
The couple, who have lived in Florence 12½ years, wanted to give something back to the community.
“For a long time we wanted to do something for the community and we thought opening a little shop would help,” Sue Wikoff said. “We bought the place in November and thought it would be a nice little spot.”
The most recent addition to the store’s inventory is a modest array of grocery basics, including bread, coffee, sugar, flour, cookies, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, and the like.
“We’ve put it out there for suggestions for things people might need,” she said. “We try to keep our prices fair.”
While Sue runs the store, Paul works in pest control. The couple used to own their own pest control business, then merged it with another pest control company.
Paul still services a lot of locations in the area.
“Come check us out. We’d love to meet you,” Sue Wikoff said.
