Four of five county high school football teams won in Week 4, two of them in shutouts.
Hillsboro
Hillsboro defeated Remington 33-0 at home during its homecoming game at Joel Wiens Stadium.
Coach Demetrius Cox credited the victory to those in the trenches.
“The physicality and effort they played with set the tone for the entire game,” Cox said.
Quarterback Zayne Haslett benefited from a dominant performance by the Trojans’ offensive line and began the game with a 7-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
Hillsboro scored two more touchdowns in the first half and two more during the second half.
The Trojans’ defense held Remington to very little.
“Defensively, our entire unit played with great energy and toughness, and earning a shutout is something we can be proud of,” Cox said.
Hillsboro (2-2) will travel Friday to Inman (3-1).
Peabody-Burns
Peabody-Burns pitched the other shutout during a 46-0 victory over Southern Coffey County that triggered a 45-point mercy rule before halftime.
Warriors quarterback Aiden Hurst went 4-for-4 for 124 yards passing and three touchdowns. But later, after a scuffle, Hurst was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Still, Peabody-Burns managed the adversity and came out on top for its second shutout victory this season.
Tight end Jameson Miles rushed for one touchdown and caught two touchdown passes. Linebacker Dalton Philpott intercepted a pass and returned it for a 26-yard touchdown with less than a minute left in the second quarter, triggering the mercy rule.
Peabody-Burns (3-1) will be at home again Friday when it plays Altoona-Midway (0-4).
Goessel
Goessel’s football team traveled Friday to Burlingame High School and won a back-and-forth game, 32-28.
The Bluebirds were the first to score when Claudio Flores sprinted 20 yards with a fumble he recovered.
Early in the second quarter, Brayton Base carried the ball into the end zone from the 3-yard line.
Burlingame later tied the game in the third quarter, but Flores later broke some tackles as he weaved his way to the end zone from the 35 yard line.
After Burlingame tied the score at 20, Goessel regained the lead on a 50-yard pass from Base to a wide open Gage Valdois. The Bearcats responded and took a 28-26 lead, but the Bluebirds retorted with 9 minutes 23 seconds to play in the game on a 1-yard plunge from Base.
Goessel’s defense held on for the victory.
The Bluebirds (2-2, 2-1 in district play) will face Wakefield (1-1) at home Friday.
Centre
The Cougars came out on top on the road Friday against Marais des Cygnes Valley, winning 61-25.
Centre (3-1) will stay on the road Friday for its game against Ingalls (4-0).
Marion
Marion traveled Friday to Chaparral and lost 28-0. The Warriors have been shutout in both their losses this season.
Marion (2-2) will look to bounce back Friday at its homecoming game against Haven (4-0), but the Wildcats are ranked eighth in Class 2A, according to MaxPreps.
