Another big week for Warriors

Staff writers

Marion easily extended its unbeaten streak Friday while Peabody-Burns turned in another dominating performance, and Hillsboro logged a comeback victory.

Marion

The Warriors took Sedgwick to the cleaners on the road, winning 42-8.

“It was a good win for us, especially being a league game and first round of district play,” coach Shaun Craft said. “I was pleased with our focus and readiness to play.”

Jameson Looper had a monster game, rushing for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

Quarterback Carson Krause rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

“Offensively, we took care of the ball and kept it moving to keep their offense off the field,” Craft said. “I thought our defense played together and did a great job of communicating all night. Every week our games are going to get bigger and more important.”

Marion (4-0) will be at home Friday for homecoming against Inman (3-1).

“Inman is another league and district game this week, and they are a very good team,” Craft said. “Their only loss was to Sterling, another very good 1A team this year, in a shootout a couple weeks ago.

“They are fast and physical, so we are going to need a great week of practice where everyone is focused and locked in.”

Peabody-Burns

Quarterback Aiden Hurst threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 123 yards.

The Warriors (2-2) will be on the road Friday to face an opponent they already defeated this season, Marais de Cygnes Valley (3-1).

Hillsboro

Down 13-6 at halftime, the Trojans came back to beat Halstead, 22-13.

Quarterback Zayne Haslett threw for 77 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 152 yards. Jesiah Gooch rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

“We executed when it mattered, and found a way to finish,” Cox said. “This was a true team win, and it shows the growth and resilience of our group.”
