Marion, Peabody hit the warpath

Staff writers

This weekend featured two memorable games — a lopsided victory for Marion and the another, the first of the season for Peabody-Burns’ — along with three other games county teams probably would like to forget.

Marion

The Warriors stomped all over Bennington, 60-6, on the road Friday.

Jameson Looper finished with 191 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Quarterback Carson Krause rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns.

Easton Babcock finished with seven carries, 42 yards, and a touchdown.

Hitch Soyez led the defense with seven tackles. Looper added five more.

Marion (3-0) will be back on the road Friday against Sedgwick (1-2).

Peabody-Burns

Peabody-Burns captured its first victory of the season in a big way Friday, beating Marais des Cygnes Valley 51-6 at home.

“Our scout teams at practice have really stepped up giving the varsity guys a better challenge,” coach Eric Dutton said. “After the first two weeks and the strength of the opponents we faced, it was a good feeling to play the way we did.”

Dalton Philpott finished with eight carries for 205 yards and six touchdowns.

Aiden Hurst and Ashton Talkington each scored a touchdown as well.

Jameson Miles sacked Marais des Cygnes Valley’s quarterback twice, and Joey Aydelott sacked him once.

“We have to play this game again in two weeks for districts, and this time at their home field,” Dutton said. “I am excited to see how we play against them in a couple of weeks once we put in more work.”

The Warriors (1-2) will be at home Friday against Pawnee Heights (2-1).

Hillsboro

A 45-minute lightning delay before halftime killed early back-and-forth momentum Friday as Hillsboro lost to Hesston, 57-29, at home.

“Hesston’s execution on both sides of the ball and special teams was outstanding, and they deserve recognition for a well-earned win,” Hillsboro coach Demetrius Cox said. “While the final score was not in our favor, I want to commend the players for their effort, resilience, and moments of strong play throughout the game.

“At times, our offense showed flashes of potential, moving the ball effectively, and putting points on the board. These moments are a testament to the teams’ determination and hard work.”

Quarterback Zayne Haslett passed for 142 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 68 yards rushing.

Jesiah Gooch finished with 62 yards rushing and one touchdown. Aaron Hein had 97 yards receiving with two touchdowns.

“The talent and effort are there,” Cox said. “Continued focus and improvement in these areas will help us compete at a higher level in the weeks ahead.”

The Trojans (1-2) will hit the road Friday to play Halstead (1-2).

Centre

The Cougars were blanked Friday against Little River, losing 62-0.

“For road games, our preparation stays pretty consistent overall,” coach Thieen Antoszyk said. “We focus on film, practice, and game plans the same way.

“The main difference is just the travel — making sure the players stay focused on the bus, adjusting our timing for warm-ups, and keeping routines as normal as possible so it still feels like a home atmosphere.”

Centre (1-2) will be on the road again Friday against Burlingame (2-1).

Goessel

The Bluebird football team failed to score Friday against the Rural Vista Heat at White City.

The game ended at halftime with the final score 46-0.

Goessel is 1-2 for the season and will begin district play Friday at home against Little River.
