To the editor:
On behalf of the Heart of America Free Flight Association, we would like to thank the citizens of Marion and Marion County for the reception given to us for our annual Father’s Day weekend contest. This is, of course, our first time in Marion. We were delighted with the way everyone involved in the contest was treated and greeted. Contestants came from Colorado, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas.
Our particular thanks goes to Marion Economic Development Director Doug Kjellin, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make our event possible and pleasurable.
We also would like to say “thank you” to the Marion County Record for the pre-event publicity, businesses that posted information about the contest, area farmers for allowing us access to their fields surrounding Marion Municipal Airport where the contest was held, and Marion City Council for welcoming us.
Marion truly is a unique community and its hospitality is second to none. We thank you most sincerely and hope with equal sincerity that you will invite us back next year. We certainly are looking forward to it.
