Dear Lyons offense,
It was nothing personal, we were just doing our job.
During the years, our coaches have taught us how to play tenacious defense, no matter whom we are playing.
Big, small, short, or tall, we attack the ball like a kid does a candy bar wrapper. Our goal is to stop you at all costs.
Friday we did our job.
We held you to 80 yards of total offense, and if it wasn’t for a crazy, busted play, you wouldn’t have scored at all.
Twenty-six yards and all six of your points came on a botched field goal attempt, a 41-yarder at that, that went perfectly right for you, and extremely wrong for us.
It gave you a 6-0 lead, but it gave us a wake-up call, and we decided to never let that happen again.
We sacked your quarterback four times, recovered two fumbles, and intercepted a pass.
Again, nothing personal, we were just doing our job.
But what a fun job it is.
We forced you to punt six times, stopped you on fourth-and-one, and never let you sustain any kind of substantial drive; all the while never tiring.
However, you might want to blame our offense for that. It decided to come out in the second half and drive nearly 80 yards in more than six minutes before scoring a touchdown.
Couple that with our halftime break, and we felt as good as new when we stepped back on the field.
We also are deep, and a consistent substitution routine kept our legs fresh as well. In other words, we never got tired.
So, again sorry, but we were just doing our job.
Nothing personal.
Sincerely,
The Marion High School Warrior defense
