Garage, pickup, Corvette lost in fire

Before firefighters arrive, Gary McCall used a garden hose to try to extingish a fire in his garage Friday night, but his pickup, Corvette, and the garage were a total loss nonetheless.

Firefighters from Florence, Peabody, Marion, and Burns responded to the fire at 10:59 p.m. and spent an hour getting it contained.

Emergency manager Marcy Hostetler said firefighters were able to make sure no nearby buildings caught fire although the garage was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

Hostetler said Monday that a state fire marshal had been notified, but she wasn’t sure whether he had reached to the fire scene because of last weekend’s blizzard.

A report on the cause of the fire won’t be available until later, Hostetler said.
