Gary Hageberg

Services for Gary “Butch” Hageberg, 82, formerly of Burdick, who died Saturday at the Legacy of Herington, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Burdick Methodist Church. Visitation will be today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Zeiner Funeral Home – Herington. Interment will be at Burdick Methodist Cemetery following the service.

Born March 13, 1936, to Olof and Velma (Richey) Hageberg, he graduated from Diamond Valley High School. He married Marilyn Meierhoff on June 15, 1958.

He was owner-manager of Burdick Meat Market for 59 years. He was a member of Burdick United Methodist Church and served in several different positions.

Called the “mayor of Burdick” by many, he was known for serving homemade ice cream at Burdick’s Labor Day celebration. He and his wife were grand marshals in 2009. He also was a volunteer painter and a supporter of FFA and 4-H.

A sister, Irene Ford, preceded him in death.

Survivors include: wife Marilyn of Herington; daughter Teresa Roberts of Topeka; sons Daniel Hageberg of Burdick; Gene Hageberg of Cedar Point, Texas; and Mike Hageberg of Burdick; sisters, Marge Price of Atlanta, Georgia; and Ruth Pendable of Lanham, Maryland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established for Burdick Methodist Church and Burdick Relay for Life.
