Gertrude Ray

Piedmont area native, rancher’s wife, and former high school teacher Gertrude W. Ray, 91, died Friday at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.

Services were Monday at the Valley United Methodist Church in Marion followed by a committal service at Piedmont Cemetery.

Born Aug. 12, 1923 to Harold and Imogene Powers, she married Elmer “Bob” Ray on Aug. 7, 1944 in Sedan, and in 1981, they moved to Marion.

Her husband preceded her in death in 2008.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Jackson and Cheryl Ray both of Marion; two brothers, Cecil Powers of Andover and Harold “Sonny” Powers of El Dorado; one stepsister, Gladys Samuels of El Dorado; three grandchildren, Jeff Jackson, Robb Hartley, and Vicki Williams; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial was established with Marion City Library.
