GOESSEL:   Girls track looking for experience

Contributing writer

Goessel’s track team will have two participants return this season that had experience at the state track meet last year. Erin Brubaker ran in the 4x400 relay last year at the state meet. At the Wheat State League meet in 2013 Brubaker picked up individual points in High Jump, 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Aleena Cook also participated at the state meet in the 4x100 relay. Cook picked up individual points at the league meet in high jump and 100 meter Dash. Kara Schmucker returns for her fourth year of track, hoping to improve her time in the 800 meter run.

The Bluebirds will expect some underclassmen to improve in times and distances as the team begins to gel after the first several meets. A significant number of freshmen girls are expected to contribute to the success of this year’s team. Like last year, there is anticipation that enough girls will report for track to put together several relay teams.

The Bluebirds will begin the season with a quint (5 teams) at Remington. Goessel track fans will want to put April 15 on the calendar when Goessel will host a quint and also May 15 as the Bluebirds host the nine-team Wheat State League meet.
