Glenda Rae Bernhardt, 51, died Wednesday, July 25, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Glenda was born July 5, 1961, at Glasco, Kan., the daughter of Paul and LaVerna Liby Higle. She was raised in Glasco and lived there for some years as an adult.

She had been employed as a secretary for an optometrist and also worked as a dental assistant.

In 2008 she had a lung transplant.

On Nov. 11, 2010, she was married to Jason Bernhardt at Las Vegas, Nev.

She is survived by her husband, Jason of Marion; a son, Lane Stewart of Derby; stepson and daughter, Cadan and Brooke Bernhardt both of Lehigh, Kan.; daughters Pam Waggoner of Wichita, Jamie Darnall of Glasco, and Keisha and Desarae Waggoner both of Rose Hill, Kan.; a brother, Tony Higle of Glasco; two sisters, Paula Jones of Jamestown and Kelli Darnall of Glasco; six grandchildren; her in-laws, Sam and Kathy Bernhardt of Marion; a sister-in-law, Connie Bernhardt of Marion; and a niece, Chelsea Cornwell of Marion.

The funeral service was Saturday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vernon Bowers officiating. Interment followed at Claney Cemetery, rural Marion. Visitation was Friday at Zeiner Funeral Home of Marion. A memorial has been established with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marion County in care of the funeral home.
