Goessel 2nd at Wheat State meet
Centre coach also pleased with performance at meet

Ten girls scored points for the Bluebirds as they finished in second place as a team behind Little River in the Wheat State League track meet.
Cheyenne Sawyer was a double winner in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.
Aimee Funk captured first in long jump and third in the 100-meter dash.
Abbigail Funk raced to second place in the 100-meter dash and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash. Logan Bryant picked up fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Goessel boys finished third as a team, two points behind Canton-Galva.
Senior Jake Wiens was second in long jump, third in the 100-meter dash, and fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Eli Boden leaped his season best in triple jump to capture second place, ran a season best in the 400-meter dash for second, and picked up points in the 200-meter dash with a fifth-place finish.
Jake Flaming placed second in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles. Javin Schmidt picked up two third-place medals in the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run.
Representing Centre, Kaitlyn Bina and Gentri Holub finished second Thursday. Bina ran the 1600-meter race, and Holub threw javelin.
“Nearly 40% of our performances for the day were career best performances, so I was pleased with the effort,” Centre coach Alan Stahlecker said.
Peabody-Burns sent four athletes to the meet, but none were not able finish high enough to score points.
Goessel, Centre, and Peabody-Burns will travel to Iola for a regional meet Friday. In order to qualify for the state meet in Wichita, competitors will need to finish in the top four at the regional meet.
