Goessel girls set 3-point record

Goessel’s girls set a team record scoring 12 three-pointers in last week’s game against Wichita Classical School.

None was more important than Cheyenne Sawyer’s clutch shot with 11 seconds to go to send the game into overtime.

Overall, she connected on six threes. Greta Scholle hit four; Abbigail Funk, one; and Logan Bryant, one, the only three-pointer in her varsity career.

The previous single-game team record was 11, set in 2011 and tied in 2018.

Despite being down by 13 near the end of the second quarter, Goessel won the game, 49-46, in overtime Tuesday.

“This is a competitive and relentless group,” coach Ryan Hoopes said. “Believing we could win felt very possible in the final two minutes of regulation.”
