Goessel golfer takes 2nd at Salina

Staff writer

Tough, windy conditions on a hilly course made it exceptionally challenging for golfers this past week at a varsity meet at Great Life golf course in Salina.

Three golfers from Goessel — Noah Schrag, Levi Schrag, and Luke Stucky — took to the links in Salina.

Noah Schrag brought home second place with an 84, Levi Schrag snagged sixth with a 94, and Stucky came in 32nd place with a score of 135.

“For his first meet, Levi Schrag did a great job,” coach Chad Lindeman said. “He managed the course very well. He got into some trouble on some holes, but with course management he was able to finish strong.”

Noah Schrag played alongside heavy competition in his group. Three members of the group were Top 5 finishers from state last year. One of them, Ryland Kooiman Hutch Central Christian, took first at state last year and took first in Salina with a score of 82.

Goessel golf will be in Herington and Hillsboro this week for events Tuesday and Thursday.

The combined Marion/Centre golf team took two players — Gabe Hasenbank from Marion and Karsen Kroupa from Centre.

Hasenbank placed 31st, and Karson took 28th place.

“We are going to continue to work on developing the individual skills of our players so they can improve scoring,” coach Max Venable said.

There will be two meets this week for varsity and junior varsity golfers, both in Herington. These will be the first competitions for some new golfers on the combined team.
