Marion High School senior Whitney Gordon put the wraps on her high school basketball career with an all-star game appearance Sunday, and received additional postseason honors from Kansas coaches and media.
Gordon was one of 17 Kansas high school seniors who suited up Sunday for the 34th annual Kansas All-Star Classic basketball game in Hutchinson.
Sponsored by the Hutchinson Quarterback Club, the event featured some of the premier players in the state from high schools large and small, including players from Overland Park, Manhattan, Dodge City, and Hutchinson.
Gordon also participated in the three-point shooting contest, making it into the final four who competed at halftime for the sharpshooting crown.
The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association released its postseason honors Monday, and Gordon was selected for the Class 3A all-state third team. Gordon was also on the honorable mention list for the Topeka Capitol-Journal Class 3A honorees.
Gordon’s next basketball challenge will come this fall in NCAA Division I with the University of Wyoming Cowgirls. Gordon landed a five-year basketball scholarship with the school worth $100,000. The five-year term of the scholarship is structured by the university to ensure players have sufficient time to attain degrees while balancing academics against the rigorous demands of participation in competitive sports.
