The grandmothers of three juniors at Goessel High School have created quilts as fundraisers for the class and for an after-prom party.

Teressa Rauh of McPherson created a 48-by-78-inch quilted lap blanket to be raffled as an after-prom fundraiser.

She saw a screen print of John Wayne in a fabric shop, and it reminded her of her deceased brother, who liked John Wayne. So she bought it along with trim material and backing to make a lap quilt.

“I made the quilt and then decided to donate it to my grandson’s class,” she said.

She is not a Goessel High alumnus but has several grandchildren who have graduated from there.

This isn’t the first time she has donated her handiwork. She has donated for the Marion County Toy Run.

Sharon Adrian and JoAnn Nickel , 1967 graduates of Goessel High, worked together to create a blue-and-white 58-by-68-inch quilt as a fundraiser for the junior class.

Tickets for both quilts are being sold at Goessel home basketball games, between games and at halftimes until Feb.20, for a cost of $3 for one ticket, or $5 for two.

Winners will be announced at ball games Feb. 20.
