Hanschu wins state ball throw title
Jorge Hanschu of Hillsboro won the 11- and 12-year-old division in the softball throw at the Hershey’s Track and Field state meet this weekend in Hutchinson.
His best throw was 170 feet, 1 inch, about 10 percent farther than the second-place throw of 153-8. His other throws were 161-5 and 157-8.
To qualify for the state meet, Jorge needed to place in the top three of the local Hershey’s meet in Hillsboro in May. He won the local softball throw competition with a throw of 159 feet, a new local record.
Jorge is waiting to find out if he qualified for a trip to the Hershey’s national meet in Hershey, Pa.
Jayson and Jan Hanschu of rural Hillsboro are Jorge’s parents.
