Harold H. Morris Sr.

Harold H. Morris Sr., 89, of Arkansas City died Sept. 14 at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita.

He was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Arkansas City to Charles H. and Georgia Ruth (Drumsgould) Morris. He attended Arkansas City Public Schools and later served in the U.S. Army for 2.5 years during World War II in Normandy and northern France.

He married Ernestine L. Bradford in 1942. He later married Laura L. Thompson on Jan. 14, 1964, in Newkirk, Okla.

Morris was entrepreneur of The Grand Terrace for 22 years and Morris Bail Bonds until 2009. He was a member of St. James Church of God in Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; five sons, Harold H. Morris Jr. of Aurora, Colo., Phillip B. Morris of Wichita, Orville R. White of Arkansas City, Roger W. White of Arkansas City, and Eddie Ward of Lubbock, Texas; six daughters, Pamela Vaughn of Aurora, Donna L. Davis of Dallas, Texas, Floyd “Jean” Gray of Wichita, Jacqueline M. McDonald of Arkansas City, Myrtle Franklin of Arkansas City, Elaine Davis of Lubbock, Texas; three brothers, Theodore Morris of Arkansas City, Billy Morris of Atlanta, Ga., and Charles Morris of Saginaw, Mich.; 37 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maxine Watson; and two brothers, Donald Morris and Travis Morris.

Services were Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation was Friday at St. James Church of God in Christ.

A memorial fund has been established with St. James Church of God in Christ.
