Harry Homan
Funeral services for former Peabody resident Harry Blaine “Butch” Homan, 77, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, Feb. 20, 2023, in Burlington, Vermont, will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
Friends and relatives are being encouraged to gather after the service at Morgan House, 212 N. Walnut St.
Born Sept. 10, 1945, Harry played football at Peabody High School, enjoyed fishing and hunting, raced motorcycles, and visited his grandparents in Tennessee during the summer before joining the U.S. Army after graduation.
Harry completed two tours of duty in combat zones, including in Korea and during the Vietnam War.
After the military, Harry worked as an electrician and moved to Florida and then South Carolina, where he was a technical writer for Union Carbide before moving to Marshalltown, Iowa, where he was a documentation manager at Fisher Controls while raising his family with his wife, Linda.
In Iowa, he was the president of the Iowa Windsurfing Association and enjoyed working on his house before moving to Las Vegas, Phoenix, and finally Denver and Vermont to be with relatives.
Harry was an animal lover. Especially important was his dog, Pepper, who was blind in one eye, just like him.
Harry loved fixing cars, including his Hudson in Kansas and souped-up Miatas, and he frequently took road trips. Everyone who met Harry remarked how nice he was; Harry was loved.
Harry is survived by daughters Angie Homan and Brandi Homan, both of Vermont; son-in-law Daniel Singer; grandchildren Scarlett Homan Singer and Solomon Homan Singer; longtime love Linda (Gordon) Homan; sister Gerry Uphoff; ex-wife Maryann Matanane; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Homan, Jr; his mother, Mildred (Dougherty) Homan; and his brother-in-law, Frank Uphoff.
