Helen Murray

Former Burns teacher Helen L. Murray, 93, Newton, died Sunday.

Born June 2, 1923, to Ernest and Carrie (Spiller) Farrar at Norwich, she attended school in Norwich and received an associate’s degree from Southwestern College and taught for two years in Burns.

After marrying Henry Murray, of Marion, she and her husband were active in Methodist ministry. She also was active in United Methodist Women, Sunday School teaching, and music. After serving with the National Board of Missions New Church Development program, the couple retired in Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband and by siblings Marie B. Fisher and Clarence, Howard, Kenneth, Opal, Max, and Paul Farrar.

Survivors include children Nancy Mulholland and Harold Murray; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, Newton. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Friday at UpChurch Cemetery in Norwich.

A memorial has been established with the Henry and Helen Murray Endowed Scholarship Fund at Southwestern College.
