Herzet sweeps at Hesston

Marion’s Kristen Herzet dominated the girls’ throwing events at the Hesston Invitational on Thursday, placing first in discus, shot put, and javelin.

The effort earned Herzet the honor of most outstanding female athlete at the meet.

Molly Hess gave Herzet some company in the javelin, placing second. Marissa Jacobsen nailed down second in triple jump and fourth in long jump. She also placed fifth in the 200 meters.

Erika Hess scored points in the field with a fourth-place finish in pole vault.

On the track, it was McKenzee Remmers leading the way with second-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200, and another second came in the 4x100 relay.

Sam Richmond took fourth in the 400.

Tyler Palic scored the boys’ lone victory in discus, and finished third in both javelin and shot put. Fifth-place finishes in the field went to pole vaulter Bryce Shults and triple jumper Jerid Schafers.

Tyler Arocha continued a string of good performances by taking third in the 200 and fourth in the 400.

Marion hosts the Heart of America league meet Friday.
