Hett first MHS golfer to go to state four years
Landon Leiker and Lindsay Hett competed in the 3A state championship golf tournament Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays. Hett shot a 92 and Leiker shot a 93 in conditions that included 25 to 40 mph winds.
Neither golfer placed in the top 20. It was Hett’s first time playing the course.
Coach Lee Leiker said Hett is the first Marion golfer to compete all four years in the state tournament. Some years Hett qualified as an individual and others she qualified with the team.
“It’s been an honor,” Hett said. “It’s been exciting, playing with the boys each year, playing from their tees.”
Hett said her family of golf enthusiasts helped her game. She said her dad, Aaron, is a good golfer and that her mom, Lanell ,is the only person in the family to hit two hole-in-ones. She also said that putting, chipping, and reading the green are the most important parts of her game.
Hett, a Marion graduate, is still uncertain about her future. She said she still wants to start college next fall and she has recently looked at community colleges and technical schools.
“I feel good about what I accomplished in high school and all my teams,” Hett said. “It was a good year for the class of 2010.”
