Hetts win couples golf tourney

Aaron Hett and Lindsay Hett, both of Marion, combined for a score of 73 to win the 23rd annual couples golf tournament Sunday at Marion Country Club.

There were 38 teams from 15 cities competing in the event.

First flight winners were Jerry and Sandra Quiring of Topeka. Dick and Cathy Switzer of Concordia won the second flight, and Bill and Pat Garrison of El Dorado took top honors in the third flight.

Other couples from Marion who placed included Brian Hess and Angela Albin, third in the first flight, and Jerry and Lois Smith, second in the second flight.

Joe Lovelady of Marion won a prize for the longest putt on hole No. 6.

Bruce-crofoot cup

Marion and Hillsboro golfers squared off in the annual Bruce-Crofoot Cup team competition Sept. 12-13 at Marion Country Club.

Marion won in convincing fashion, outscoring Hillsboro 69½ to 38½. Marion leads the series 9-7.

“Our big point getter this year was Tod Gordon,” captain Aaron Hett said. “Out of a possible 9 points, he got 8½.”
