Higher rent, longer trailers likely at lake

Marion County commissioners voted Monday to accommodate larger mobile homes on some lots at the county lake and separately said they would consider raising rents on all mobile home campsights by January.
Scott Schultz, who lives in a camper on a rented lot flanked by Pine Tree Dr. and Turkey Creek Rd., petitioned earlier this month to allow a trailer that is 70 feet long on his lot.
It is “extremely hard” to find modern trailers within the county’s 60-foot maximum length that would also be HUD compliant, he said. A 1988 single-wide he hopes to move onto the lot is 70 feet long, trailer tongue included.
Of 52 lots in the lake trailer community, lake superintendent Issac Hett said, around 6 can accommodate a 70-foot trailer without obstructing roads or utility hookups.
Noting higher expenses for utilities, commissioners agreed that campsight rates should be regularly adjusted.
Rents last were raised two years ago, for the first time in 12 years.
