Kirby Jahnke, 40, 603 N. B St., Ramona, was in a one-vehicle accident on 340th Road west of Timber Road at 12:10 a.m. Jan. 1.
Jahnke, driving his 2001 Ford Focus. He lost control of the car on the gravel road, propelling it into the north ditch and rolling the vehicle. Jahnke was able to get out of the vehicle and walk to a nearby residence to ask for help. The people at the residence called 911 and Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Proffitt, at the time driving near Lincolnville, was the first on the scene.
Jahnke was transported by Tampa emergency medical services to the Herington Emergency Room. At the hospital, Proffitt had Jahnke take a blood test for alcohol at the hospital. Proffitt said Jahnke admitted he was intoxicated before he was transported.
Both the Marion County Sheriff’s office and Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the accident. The Sheriff’s office handled the accident report. The Highway Patrol became responsible for the DUI investigation. Proffitt is waiting for the results of the test to be known and he will alert Marion County attorney Susan Robson.
The original report provided by the Sheriff’s office had the description of the accident blacked out because the KHP is currently investigating the DUI case. However, the Sheriff did not hesitate to submit the full public document to the Marion County Record when asked.
